Alaska

The Juneau Community Foundation has announced a $1 million donation from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings in support of social services in Juneau. The gift is the first half of the company's $2 million donation to the city, which has been impacted by the lack of cruise passengers in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The foundation has allocated the funds to fifteen organizations, including United Human Services, the Glory Hall, Tlingit and Haida Regional Housing Authority, and the Juneau Carbon Offset Program.

California

The San Diego Foundation has announced that it awarded a record $104.1 million during the 2021 fiscal year. Nearly seven thousand grants were distributed to about two thousand nonprofit organizations in a variety of sectors, with approximately $35 million going to nonprofits specializing in health and human services, $20 million to education nonprofits, and $17 million to youth development nonprofits. Since its launch in March 2020, the San Diego COVID-19 Community Relief Fund has awarded more than $67 million to San Diego nonprofits providing child care, financial assistance, education, food security, medical support, and workforce development; 79 percent of those served were living in poverty. The foundation also ended the fiscal year with $1.3 billion in assets, the most in its forty-six-year history.

Colorado

The Community Foundation Boulder County has announced Community Trust grants totaling more than $370,000, boosting its total giving in 2021 to more than $8.5 million. The Community Trust is the foundation's primary discretionary grantmaking program and supports nonprofits working in Boulder County in the areas of health and human services, education, civic engagement, arts and culture, environment, and animal care and welfare. Since its inception in 2001, the Community Trust has awarded more than $6 million to address the needs of the county.

Georgia

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced more than $2.25 million in grants and investments in support of community development, education, nonprofit technical assistance, and the arts. The funding will support partnerships across the region to bolster organizations and programs that work to improve equity, make neighborhoods more vibrant, and help families become more economically prosperous. Recipients include the Conservation Fund, the Fulton Education Foundation, the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, and the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund.

Kansas

The Coffeyville Area Community Foundation has announced that it will host Match Day on November 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at its office as well as online at givematchgrow.com. Mail-in contributions postmarked by November 18 also will be matched. Match Day is a one-day opportunity for donors to increase their giving to twenty-one local nonprofit organizations and charitable funds. In addition to CACF, the Bernard and Effie Jo Wade Family Foundation, the Pratt Family Charitable Fund, and the David and Lynn Bumgarner Family Trust are partnering to offer $50,000 in matching gifts to every donation made that day.

Kentucky

The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced the election of five business and community leaders to its governing board. Alex Alvarez is senior vice president, chief production and sustainability officer for Brown-Forman Corp; Ellen Call serves as director of state government affairs for Charter Communications; Ted Nixon is chair and CEO of D.D. Williamson, a global leader in non-artificial food colors; Carl L. Williams, Sr. is founder, president, and CEO of 20/20 Consulting Professionals and executive director of Access Justice; and Jason Zachariah is president and COO of Kindred Healthcare. Each has been appointed to a three-year term.

Massachusetts

The Boston Foundation has announced discretionary grants for the first quarter of its 2022 fiscal year totaling $2.44 million to twenty-one organizations. Eighteen of the awards are single-year grants, two are multiyear, and one is a reimbursable grant, expected to be repaid and made available to be granted out again. Recipients include the Neighborhood Birth Center, the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, Bunker Hill Community College, and SkillWorks.

South Carolina

The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has announced guidelines to distribute funds from the Hilton Head Island ARPA/SLFRF Covid-19 Fund that was established by the Town of Hilton Head Island. One million dollars will be dispersed from the more than $5 million the town received through the federal government’s American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. An advisory committee consisting of community leaders and representatives from the Town of Hilton Head Island and the foundation will review grant applications and determine awards. The first grant cycle will start immediately, with the application deadline of November 30, 2021.

Tennessee

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in Nashville has announced that it awarded scholarships totaling $745,000 from more than a hundred scholarship funds in 2021. A total of 321 students from thirty-one states were awarded scholarships to attend 151 colleges and universities.

Wisconsin

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has announced that it awarded its annual Greater Together Awards to five people in recognition of their contributions and commitment to the community. Virgis and Angela Colbert were honored with the foundation's William C. Frye Award for their civic and nonprofit board service in Milwaukee over the decades, particularly in the areas of education and the arts. Mark Eppli will receive the Frank Kirkpatrick Award for his work with the Associates in Real Estate Program, a nine-month program that trains people of color in the fundamentals of the real estate industry. Carmen Pitre was awarded the Doug Jansson Leadership Award for her leadership over the past twenty years of the Sojourner Family Peace Center. And Ness Flores will receive the President’s Leadership in Racial Equity and Social Justice Award in recognition of his half century of work on behalf of underserved communities, particularly migrant farmworkers.
