Arizona

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, in partnership with the City of Tucson, has announced a new round of We Are One | Somos Uno Nonprofit Continuity grants totaling more than $350,000 in support of twenty organizations. Awarded through the foundation, the federal CARES Act funding will support the provision of essential services to vulnerable members of the Tucson community as the coronavirus continues to spread. Grant recipients include Chicanos por la Causa, Literacy Connects, the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, and the Tucson Jewish Community Center.

Georgia

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced the election of seven new directors to its board. Patrice Greer, Jeff Muir, John Reid, Dave Stockert, and Ramon Tomé, whose terms are ending, will be succeeded on the board by Ron Alston (Truist Financial), David Cummings (Atlanta Tech Village), Fran Gary (Anthem, Inc.), David Roemer (Ideas United), Jewel Burks Solomon (Google), Kelli Stewart (L.E.A.D., Inc.), and Ryan Wilson (The Gathering Spot).

Illinois

Through a joint program between the Yeomans Fund, the Peoria NEXT Foster Fund, and the Peoria Public Schools Foundation, the Community Foundation of Central Illinois has announced grants totaling $30,138 in support of classroom, STEM, and innovation projects in the Peoria Public School District. Grant recipients include local public schools and the Woodruff Career and Technical Center.

Kansas

The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $44,190 to six nonprofit organizations as part of a last round of 2020 Fund for Hutchinson grants. Recipients include Buhler Public Library, Crime Stoppers of Reno County, New Beginnings, and TECH, Inc.

Louisiana

The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced grants totaling $450,000 from its Greater Together Fund for Racial Equity. The first grants from the fund, which was launched in September, include awards to the Urban League of Louisiana, Power Coalition, and the Good Work Network.

Michigan

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced that its Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Kalamazoo initiative is partnering with the Rooted Enrichment Center and local community groups to connect residents and therapists of color. The Black and Brown Therapy Collective was developed to help cover the costs of therapy for residents dealing with racial trauma who are not covered by health insurance; create a therapy referral resource for nonprofits, organizers, and community-based organizations that are working directly with communities of color; and provide other resources to members of the community.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, in partnership with Shinola Detroit, has announced three grants totaling $187,500 from its COVID-19 Health Fund to help address the needs of area healthcare workers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The grants to healthcare systems in metro Detroit — the Ascension St. John Foundation, the Beaumont Health Foundation, and Henry Ford Health System — will cover unexpected expenses incurred by healthcare workers as a result of COVID-19.

Minnesota

The Minneapolis Foundation has announced the appointment of Michelle Benson as its new vice president of marketing and communications. Before serving as national director of marketing and communication at College Possible, Benson held senior marketing roles at the Minnesota Zoo and Chicago Park District.

New Mexico

A grant from the Santa Fe Community Foundation is making it possible for Many Mothers, a local nonprofit that provides support to new mothers, to reconfigure its services, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports. After the coronavirus pandemic forced the organization to cut back on most of its services in the spring, the nonprofit applied for and received a grant from the foundation's COVID relief fund. The nonprofit then asked families in the community with infants what kinds of services they needed most. With funding provided by the grant, a team of volunteers, and a handful of full-time employees, the organization subsequently was able to deliver three new programs: Babies' Basic Needs, which provides diapers, formula, and the like to new mothers; Farm to Families, which helps pass along surplus produce from local farms to local families in need; and the Navigator Program, which hired a bilingual community navigator to help families connect with community services in the area.

Pennsylvania

The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced Phil Koch as its new vice president for policy and community impact. Koch has served for more than five years as executive director of Pittsburgh Foundation affiliate the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County and will continue to fulfill his management duties there until a successor is identified.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced that it will work with the governor's office, state agencies, and ONE Neighborhood Builders on a two-year, $8 million effort to implement Central Providence Opportunities, a place-based initiative aimed at increasing social and economic mobility for Providence residents in the 02908 and 02909 ZIP codes. According to the foundation, the initiative is central to Rhode Island governor Gina Raimondo's strategy to build a robust and equitable recovery post-pandemic through investments in housing and infrastructure, child care, pre-K and early education, workforce development, and small businesses.
