California

The Marin Community Foundation in Novato has announced that its Pirkle Jones Fund (PJF) has named Isidoro Angeles as the 13th recipient of a grant from its Visual Artist Support Program. Established to honor Marin photographer Pirkle Jones, who died in 2009, the program recognizes and supports promising emerging and mid-career artists living in the county. Angeles will receive a grant of $50,000.

Florida

The Pinellas Community Foundation in St. Petersburg has received a two-year, $250,000 grant from JPMorgan Chase in support of its Diverse Ventures program, which assists minority entrepreneurs and small business owners. The commitment will help the foundation build capacity and forge connections among grassroots business-support organizations serving minority entrepreneurs. Through its Social Opportunity Works Fund, which supported small businesses and minority businesses during the pandemic, Diverse Ventures will partner with public, private, and philanthropic organizations committed to equitable economic development and wealth-building in minority communities.

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has announced the appointment of Daniel Gibson as vice president for community impact. Most recently, Gibson served as regional vice president at Allegany Franciscan Ministries for Miami-Dade County, and he has also worked as director of community impact at the United Way of Palm Beach County and chief program officer for The Lord’s Place.

Indiana

The Central Indiana Community Foundation in Indianapolis has announced that three affiliates awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to nonprofits in central Indiana. Hamilton County Community Foundation awarded 17 grants totaling $165,000, providing unrestricted operating support to organizations aligned with the Foundation’s three community leadership pillars—behavioral health, family and youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth. Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, a special interest fund of CICF, awarded 23 grants totaling $466,000 to support organizations serving women and girls. And Central Indiana Senior Fund awarded 42 grants totaling $910,000 to organizations serving central Indiana seniors.

The Community Foundation DeKalb County has announced grants from its Veteran Endowment Fund, which was established in 2021 to assist veterans and their families in northeast Indiana. While the fund continues to mature, it has begun to support organizations whose missions include helping veterans in DeKalb County. In 2023, the fund awarded grants to seven organizations, four of which are American Legion posts. The other groups include INVets, the War Veterans Memorial Shrine of American History, and the Quiet Knight Veteran Assistance Pantry.

Minnesota

The Minneapolis Foundation has announced the launch of a mini-grants program to assist K-12 educators in teaching students about Native American culture, history, and modern tribal governments in schools across Minnesota. Established and funded by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s Understand Native Minnesota campaign, the program aims to increase awareness of Native history and culture by supporting teachers who are pursuing training or classroom projects to share accurate narratives and build understanding of the contributions and experiences of Native peoples in Minnesota. The program will award grants of up to $2,000 per educator, with a total of $500,000 available in 2024. The deadline to apply is 1 p.m. on January 22, 2024.

Pennsylvania

The Erie Community Foundation has announced that its Hear Erie’s Youth (H.E.Y.!) program is running its fifth annual Random Acts of Kindness campaign, an initiative organized by the foundation’s youth philanthropy leaders. The campaign aims to bring joy and support to families in the county through acts of kindness orchestrated by H.E.Y! members. The efforts include donating toys, purchasing new coats and winter items for children in need, and spreading holiday cheer by delivering pizzas for festive gatherings.

South Carolina

In its first Impact Grant cycle of fiscal year 2024 (July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024), Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has awarded $420,000 in grants to seven local nonprofit organizations. Recipients include the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, Daufuskie Island Community Foundation, Hopeful Horizons, and Memory Matters.

Tennessee

The Nashville-based Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has announced grants totaling more than $2.8 million in support of 438 nonprofit organizations during 2023. This year’s awards included the JumpStart Grants, a pilot program designed to assist grassroots organizations that achieved tax-exempt status between 2021 and 2023 with active programming in place offering early but promising results. A total of 44 JumpStart Grants amounting to $147,932 have been distributed across 13 counties. Nearly a quarter (23 percent) of the grants were in support of human services organizations, while 19 percent went to support arts groups, 13 percent were in support of education, and 10 percent were in support of health organizations.

Texas

The Dallas Foundation has announced that its Women’s Philanthropy Institute awarded grants totaling $300,000 to four organizations. The recipients are The Bridge, Ebby’s House/Juliette Fowler Communities, Frazier Renovations, and VNA Meals on Wheels.
