Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that the Stonewall Foundation has become a donor-advised fund held at CFSA, representing one of the most generous gifts it has ever received. During its forty-six years of grantmaking, the Stonewall Foundation provided nearly $45 million in funding to twenty-four local nonprofits, offering annual support to organizations working in the areas of arts and culture, health, and education. As a CFSA fund, the Stonewall Foundation Fund will continue to support its nonprofit partners as well as identify and fund additional organizations.
California
The Coronado Community Foundation has awarded inaugural grants of $1,000 each to twenty-one organizations, the Coronado Times reports. Grantees include Camp Able, the Coronado Floral Association, Emerald Keepers, and Friends of Coronado Public Library.
Colorado
The Denver Foundation has announced that nine nonprofits will receive grants totaling $500,000 to boost the growth of small businesses in the area. Awarded through the Amazon Denver Community Fund, the grants will enable the organizations focus their work on helping women entrepreneurs and BIPOC business owners succeed and grow by accessing capital and microlending grants, developing and adopting technology support and training opportunities, and creating mentoring and leadership programs. Recipients include Energize Colorado, the Fax Partnership, Mi Casa Resource Center, and Sistahbiz Global Network.
Connecticut
The Hartford Fund for Public Giving has announced grants totaling $1.45 million in support of its Greater Together Community Funds initiative, which was launched in 2019 when funds were created for twenty-nine communities. Each town originally received $50,000 for grantmaking and $50,000 for community fund endowments, allowing a percentage of those dollars to be available annually for grantmaking. This year, each fund will receive an additional $50,000, with $30,000 immediately available for grantmaking and $20,000 to be invested in their endowments. To date, the community funds have awarded a hundred and fourteen grants totaling more than $418,000.
The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut in New London has announced a record $324,784 in grants from its four Women and Girls funds, a 44 percent year-over-year increase. The Southeast Area Women & Girls Fund awarded $217,300, including $49,000 to the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund. Other recipients include Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters (from the Windham Area Women and Girls Fund), the Safe Futures (from the Norwich Area Women and Girls Fund), and a total of $24,485 from the Northeast Area Women and Girls Fund in support of legal advocacy for domestic violence victims, a postpartum support group, and a teen empowerment group, among others.
Florida
The National Wildlife Federation has announced that it is partnering with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice on a manatee habitat restoration project in the Warm Mineral Springs Creek and Salt Creek areas. The collaboration will provide multilingual education for the local community about an upcoming restoration project as well as the human impacts to the springs system and manatee habitat through updated and improved signage, one-on-one outreach and community meetings, informational brochures, and social media.
Illinois
Longtime public servants Diane and Steve Rutledge have established a fund at the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln in Springfield, the State Journal-Register reports. Both born and raised in Springfield, Diane served as District 186 superintendent and Steve was chief of police in Rochester. They plan to provide funding in the areas of medical care, literacy, women’s issues, and law enforcement when the fund is ready to make grants.
New Mexico
The Santa Fe Community Foundation has announced that its Native American Advised Fund has awarded grants totaling $82,500 to nine Native-led and -serving organizations across New Mexico. Recipients include Americans for Indian Opportunity, Keres Children’s Learning Center, New Mexico Kids Matter, and the Santa Fe Film Institute.
Ohio
The Greater Toledo Community Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $1.1 million in support of organizations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. Recipients include Partners for Clean Streams, RE-volv, the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, and the Believe Center.
Tennessee
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has announced that in the year since the Christmas Day bombing in Nashville, it has raised approximately $500,000 through its Disaster Relief Fund. Most of the funding has been awarded to Catholic Charities in support of assisting survivors impacted by the bombing who were ineligible for Victims of Crime Act funding.
