Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that 14 indicators have been added to its MAP Dashboard, which was established with the aim of measuring and advancing community progress in southern Arizona through data-driven collective civic action and education. Additions include median household income and GDP by industry, health insurance coverage and poverty rate, and internet access and mode of transportation to work.
Colorado
The Arvada-based Community First Foundation has announced grants totaling $350,000 in support of Jefferson County nonprofits that are using art, science, and culture to create and nurture inclusive civic engagement. Recipients include 40 West Arts, Center for the Arts Evergreen, Filipino-American Community of Colorado, and the Venue Theatre.
Iowa
The Audubon County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Omaha Community Foundation, has announced that it awarded grants totaling $186,985 to 11 nonprofit organizations and community projects during 2022. Recipients include Friendship Home, Exira Public Library, Albert the Bull Committee, and the Children’s Nest.
Massachusetts
The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced grants to 68 local nonprofits totaling $513,000 to help rebuild the nonprofit sector’s capacity, promote equity, and invest in creative solutions that support the economic, social, and emotional well-being of residents. Recipients include Loop Lab, beheard.world, Dance in the Schools, and Playworks New England.
The Greater Lowell Community Foundation (GLCF) has announced the latest round of grants from its GLCF COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund, providing an additional $150,000 to seven local nonprofits addressing mental health needs. Recipients include Alternative House, ThinkGive, UTEC, and Westford Health Department.
New Mexico
The Santa Fe Community Foundation has announced that NextGen, its group for young philanthropists, capped off its fifth grantmaking cycle by awarding $10,000 in support of education. The recipient is Future Focused Education.
New York
The Rochester Area Community Foundation has announced that it will partner with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, Central New York Community Foundation in Syracuse, and Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region in Albany in hosting a National Day of Racial Healing event on January 17, 2023. To be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET, the free virtual event will feature author and public policy expert Heather McGhee. The National Day of Racial Healing was started in 2017 by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as a way to bring people together to explore how past actions have created racial inequities in our systems.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced the appointment of officers and members who will serve on its governing committee in 2023. The newly appointed committee members are Jane Grote Abell, executive chair of the board for Donatos Pizza and Jane’s Dough Premium Foods, and William J. Hicks II, president of the medical staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital and president of the Midwest Affiliate board of directors of the American Heart Association.
Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Foundation has announced grants totaling $550,000 to 24 animal welfare programs across the state. The funding will support services including providing reduced-cost veterinary care for pets of low-income households, preparing animals for adoption, and rehabilitating injured wildlife. Recipients include Animal Rescue Rhode Island, Friends of Animals in Need, PawsWatch, and the Potter League for Animals.
