Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that the African American Leadership Institute graduated its second cohort of leaders on December 9. The institute was founded in 2010 by Valle del Sol, in partnership with Arizona OIC and South Mountain Community College, and is funded by the foundation’s African American Legacy Fund.
Florida
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice has announced grants totaling more than $2 million to 50 nonprofit organizations in support of Hurricane Ian relief and recovery efforts. Recipients include the Venice Theatre, When All Else Fails, Veterans Outreach, and United Cajun Navy.
Indiana
The Dubois County Community Foundation in Jasper has announced that the United Cabinet Foundation has transitioned from a private foundation to an endowment of the community foundation. The transfer of $10.5 million is the largest gift the community foundation has received in its 26-year history. The United Cabinet Endowment will generate approximately $400,000 in grants annually to bolster local arts and religious institutions, maintaining the charitable focus and founders’ values of the foundation, which was established in 1954.
Iowa
The Omaha Community Foundation has announced that Sunni Kamp has been named director of the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa. Affiliates of the Omaha Community Foundation serving Audubon, Cass, Crawford, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, and Shelby counties in Iowa, the foundations manage more than $26.5 million in assets, including approximately $24.9 million in endowed assets, and have awarded more than $2.1 million so far in 2022.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced that its Fund for Reno County awarded grants totaling $41,364 to six nonprofits in November. Recipients include Buhler Public Library, Hutchinson Regional Health System, Hutchinson Symphony Association, and New Beginnings.
Mississippi
The Community Foundation for Mississippi has announced the 2022 recipients of the inaugural Friends of Andrew Bucci Fund grant: Emily Murff of New Albany High School and Renna Moore-Edwards of Ida B. Wells Academic and Performing Arts Complex (APAC). The foundation’s Friends of Andrew Bucci Fund was created to honor the memory of one of Mississippi’s most celebrated and prolific visual artists. This is the fund’s first year awarding grants, which will help public, parochial, and private school art teachers acquire supplies for visual arts instruction for grades PK-12.
Montana
Organized by the Park County Community Foundation and Greater Gallatin United Way, local nonprofits have raised nearly $3 million to date in support of the Southwest Montana Flood Relief Fund, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports. Within its first phase of allocation, the fund awarded approximately $1.4 million, primarily for repairs of homes and properties damaged by the flooding of the Yellowstone River in May. In its second phase, launched in October, the fund allocated $841,000 to its three new priority areas—nonprofit relief and resiliency grants, severe flood damage, and economic relief to North Yellowstone towns, including Gardiner, Cooke City, Silver Gate, and Mammoth Hot Springs. There were more than 1,700 donors from all 50 states and various countries. The fund also saw an influx of money in August, when musician John Mayer hosted a serious of concerts at the Pine Creek Lodge. The foundation estimates that more than $1.2 million was raised through the concerts and their accompanying online streaming events.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced a total of $2.6 million in program-related investments (PRIs) to five Black-owned and -led businesses serving the central Ohio region. The businesses—Aventi Enterprises LLC, Embedded Services, the Mezzanine Fund, Our Hospitality Group LLC, and Prospera Advisory Group—are the first to receive funding through the Columbus Foundation’s Equitable Small Business Fund, which was launched in May.
West Virginia
The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and regional affiliates has announced grants totaling nearly $335,000 in support of nonprofit organizations and charitable projects across the region through its fall Community Action Grant Program. Recipients include Arnoldsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Mid-Ohio Valley, and the Gilmer County Family Resource Network.
