Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation has announced that its Black Philanthropy Initiative will host the 2014 Feed Your Soul lecture series featuring Valaida Fullwood, author of Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists, and Charlene Tarver, Esq., estate planning attorney. To be held February 19, the discussion will highlight the history of African American giving and explore ways that African American philanthropists can drive change.
Hawai'i
The Hawai'i Community Foundation has announced that it is accepting online scholarship applications from students in the state seeking financial assistance to help pay for college. HCF administers more than 180 scholarship opportunities and $4 million a year in scholarship funds; the average scholarship award in 2013 was $2,200.
Illinois
The Chicago Community Trust has selected three emerging and three experienced leaders as Trust Fellows for 2014. Experienced leaders will receive up to $60,000 each to further their professional development, while emerging leaders will receive up to $30,000 each.
Kansas
The Central Kansas Community Foundation in Newton has announced that it awarded grants totaling $42,196 in 2013 through the Central Kansas Kids FUNd. This year, the L. Marie Haun Charitable Fund for Children and private donor gifts will underwrite grants of up to $5,000 through the fund. The deadline for applications is February 28.
Massachusetts
The Cape Cod Foundation in Yarmouthport has announced that the Cape Cod Association — a supporting organization of the foundation — is accepting applications for its 2014 scholarship program. Past recipients of the scholarship must re-apply by midnight, March 15. New applicants and those who have not previously received a scholarship have until midnight, April 1, to apply. All applications must be filled out online.
Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Foundation has named Michael K. Allio, CEO of Allio Associates LLC and a former deputy director of strategy and management at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to its board of directors.
