Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation has announced the election of Steven A. Betts to its board of directors for a three-year term. Betts is managing director of development for Holualoa Companies, which holds a prominent portfolio of commercial properties in the Phoenix and Tucson markets.
California
The San Diego Foundation has announced that it awarded a record-breaking $150.8 million in grants during the 2022 fiscal year. More than $47 million was directed to education-related nonprofits and programs, including college scholarships. In 2022, the foundation provided 983 local students with a historic $3.5 million in scholarships. In addition, more than $35 million was awarded to health and human services nonprofits.
Colorado
The Community Foundation Boulder County has announced grants totaling more than $190,000 to 63 organizations working in the areas of education, arts and culture, the environment, and animal care and welfare. Recipients include the Temple Grandin School, Boulder MUSE, Eco-Cycle, and Brighter Days Dog Rescue.
Indiana
The Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced that its Central Indiana Senior Fund awarded grants totaling more than $1 million in support of 44 organizations serving central Indiana seniors. Recipients include Freetown Village, He Cares, and the Indiana Immunization Coalition.
Kansas
The Hutchinson Community Foundation has announced that its Fund for Reno County awarded grants totaling $59,800 to six nonprofits in July and September. Recipients include Family Community Theatre, Healthy Families of Reno County, RSVP-the Volunteer Center, and Salthawk Community Support.
Ohio
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) has announced a new partnership with the City of Cincinnati to strengthen the capacity of small, community-based organizations to drive equitable change. Through this partnership, GCF has established the Boots on the Ground Fund, which will provide up to $25,000 in capacity-building grants that will enable nonprofits to develop their organizational effectiveness. With the support of the city, GCF plans to distribute approximately $400,000 through the fund in its first year. Grants will be awarded to nonprofits with an operating budget of less than $1 million and located in Cincinnati. Priority will be given to organizations that demonstrate the involvement of community members in its decision making and give voices to those directly impacted by the organization.
Tennessee
The Nashville-based Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee has announced that its scholarship program is helping 323 individual students pursue secondary education at accredited schools across the United States. For the 2022-23 academic year, a total of $830,373 has been awarded from 97 different scholarship funds, and the students are attending 162 unique colleges and universities from 33 states.
Texas
Communities Foundation of Texas has announced the first recipients of the Texas Campus Innovators Awards. Through the foundation’s Educate Texas initiative, four schools will receive a total of $120,000 in support of high-performing teachers. The recipients are G.W. Truett Elementary, Marine Creek Collegiate High School, Rowlett High School P-TECH, and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy.
West Virginia
The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation has announced the creation of two endowment funds at its Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation affiliate that will support area Baptist churches. The Elizabeth Baptist Church Endowment Fund will provide permanent annual unrestricted support to the church. The Two Runs Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund will provide a perpetual fund for cemetery maintenance and upkeep. The funds were established by the siblings of the late James A. Rader, a math teacher at Wirt County High School.
