Community Foundation Update (09/17/2022)

Arizona

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced that the foundation and its partners will invest $630,000 to provide solar installations through the Nonprofit Solar Project, which offers local nonprofits the opportunity to meet a significant portion of their energy needs through solar power. The recipient organizations are BICAS, Coyote TaskForce, the Drawing Studio, the Edge School, Emerge! Center Against Domestic Violence, Sonoran Glass School, and Youth On Their Own.

Connecticut

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation in Norwalk has announced the promotion of Mendi Blue Paca to president and CEO, effective October 3. Currently the foundation’s chief community impact officer, Blue Paca has led the foundation’s grantmaking programs, policy advocacy, and major community leadership initiatives to close the opportunity gap in Fairfield County since 2018, overseeing the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Fund for Women & Girls, Immigrant Success Fund, and Thrive by 25 initiatives. She succeeds Juanita T. James, who announced in March that she would retire from her role after leading the foundation for 11 years.

Massachusetts

The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced that it is accepting applications for its Community Fund’s fall grant cycle. Community Fund grants are available to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or entities operating under the fiscal sponsorship of a tax-exempt nonprofit that serve the people of Cambridge in the areas of education and out-of-school time, economic security and opportunity, early childhood, racial equity, health and mental health, urgent and basic needs, senior services, civic engagement, immigrant services, and arts and culture. The deadline to apply is October 3, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.

Nebraska

The Omaha Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $163,444 to 19 local organizations from three specialized grant funds: the Creche Childhood Education Fund, which awards $25,000 a year to nonprofits providing educational services to underserved children; the Jetton Charitable Fund, which supports youth exposure to the performing and visual arts, STEM, and/or history programs; and the Richard A. Shaw Fund, which supports organizations with a focus on history, the natural sciences, outdoor education, or animals. Recipients include Kids Can Community Center, Pear Tree Performing Arts, and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands.

Ohio

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that president and CEO Ellen Katz plans to leave the organization by June 2, 2023. Katz joined the foundation in May 2015 and has led it through a period of growth in assets under management and impact on the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region.

Pennsylvania

The Erie Community Foundation has announced that Young Erie Philanthropists, with support from corporate partners, awarded grants totaling $35,000 to two local nonprofits. A donor-advised fund overseen by a volunteer advisory board, Young Erie Philanthropists awarded its largest grants to date: $20,000 to Mother Teresa Academy for its Full STEAM Ahead!program and $15,000 to the Erie Center for Arts & Technology for its Expanding the Construction Trades in Erie County program.

Wisconsin

The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has announced that during its summer 2022 grant cycle it awarded a total of $292,000 to 29 nonprofits serving Brown, Kewaunee, and Oconto counties through the Funds for Greater Green Bay grant program. Individual fund holders also contributed $76,600 to local nonprofit programs. Recipients include the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation, Ecumenical Partnership for Housing, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, and the Violence Intervention Project.
