Arizona
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced the additions of Melina Gee-McDaniel as communications manager of its operations department and Jonathan Kleefeld as a finance and gifts associate in its finance department.
Kentucky
The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced the recipients of its 22nd annual Vogt Invention and Innovation Awards. Six early-stage companies will participate in a 10-week accelerator program and receive $25,000 in non-dilutive grant funding, start-up coaching, mentorship from industry veterans, strategic introductions, and recognition. The winners are Arrow Health, C2 Keep, LimitLess, Melanated Healthcare, TitleWise, and Xena Intelligence. The awards are funded by the foundation’s Vogt Invention and Innovation Fund, an endowment established in 1999 by businessman and philanthropist Henry Vogt Heuser, Sr. to strengthen the city’s economic health by providing funding and support to innovative startups and inspiring entrepreneurs. This year’s recipients represent the program’s first majority-minority cohort—83 percent are founders of color and 50 percent are women-founded. The program will culminate with the introduction of the founders and company pitches at Demo Day on October 13.
New Hampshire
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has announced the election of four new members to its board of directors. Evelyn Aissa is deputy director of the Partnership for the Future of Learning. Sarah Mattson Dustin serves as executive director of New Hampshire Legal Assistance. Kristin Girald is an institutional investor and corporate leader. Ritu Ullal serves as a physician in Dartmouth Health’s Child Advocacy and Protection Program.
New Mexico
The Santa Fe Community Foundation has announced the winners of its 2022 Piñon Awards, which recognize local nonprofit organizations and philanthropists for their extraordinary contributions to northern New Mexico communities. This year’s awardees include NDI New Mexico (Courageous Innovation Award), Gerard’s House (Quiet Inspiration Award), the Food Depot (Tried and True Award), STEM Santa Fe (Visionary Award), the Sky Center: New Mexico Suicide Intervention Project (Resiliency Award), and Tom Starke (Philanthropic Leader Award).
Ohio
The Cleveland Foundation has announced the schedule for the seventh annual Cleveland Book Week. This year’s showcase, which marks a return to in-person events, will be held on September 15 and celebrate present and past Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards (AWBA) winners over the 87-year history of the prize. For the first time since 2019, programs will all be held in-person, and nearly all are free to the community. This year, the AWBA winners are Percival Everett (The Trees, fiction), Donika Kelly (The Renunciations, poetry), George Makari (Of Fear and Strangers: A History of Xenophobia, nonfiction), Tiya Miles (All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Keepsake, nonfiction), and Ishmael Reed (lifetime achievement).
Pennsylvania
The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced that the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert online giving event raised $1.15 million in support of 193 regional nonprofits working to meet basic needs. Contributions to the 16-hour campaign were spurred by $578,000 in incentive funding provided by the Pittsburgh Foundation, the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, and their donors. Since the inception of the Critical Needs Alerts in 2013, the campaigns have raised a total of $12 million, including incentive funds.
Wisconsin
The Community Foundation for the Fox River Valley in Appleton has announced that a $50,000 grant from its David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund has enabled the Niagara Escarpment Resource Network to develop the WI Ledge Rambler Geotourism program, which is designed to enhance and promote special events and tours (which often combine local culinary experiences with outdoor activities), conservation efforts, and educational programs. Among other things, the grant enabled the program to hire a part-time geotourism specialist.
