Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) has announced that its Kellenberger + Tollefson Center for LGBTQ Philanthropy awarded $247,900 in grants to 27 nonprofit organizations serving LGBTQ people across the state. Recipients of the largest annual grant distribution in the 17-year history of the center and ACF’s dedicated funds supporting the LGBTQ community includes the Anytown Leadership Program, Aunt Rita’s Foundation, GLSEN Arizona, and Southern Arizona Senior Pride.
California
The Marin Community Foundation in Novato has announced that the Pirkle Jones Fund (PJF), established to honor Marin photographer Pirkle Jones, who died in 2009, named Raylene Gorumas the 12th recipient of a grant from its Visual Artist Support Program. The program supports promising emerging and mid-career artists living in Marin County. The artist will receive a grant of $25,000. The PJF Visual Artist Support Program aims to recognize, encourage, and nurture artistic imagination and drive, commitment to the creative process, aesthetic standards, and artistic potential.
Connecticut
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced the appointment of Beatriz Gutierrez and Sivan Hines to its board of directors. Gutierrez is president and CEO of CONNSTEP, Inc., a Hartford-based business consulting firm. Hines is the inaugural senior director of college partnerships and scholar success for Hartford Promise, a large-scale scholarship organization for Hartford public school students.
Massachusetts
The Cambridge Community Foundation has appointed Janet Steinmayer, president of Lesley University, to its board of directors and elected Lori Lander as vice chair. In addition, the foundation has added to its staff Christina Turner, director of programs and grantmaking, and Wen Lo, finance officer.
Minnesota
The Minneapolis Foundation has announced that its Fourth Generation program awarded $50,000 in grants to five local organizations that are providing critical services in support of mental health justice. The recipients are the Indigenous Peoples Task Force, Native American Community Clinic, Open Path Resources, Project Tshav Ntuj, and Reclaim.
Ohio
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) has announced the launch of a $100,000 challenge grant in support of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center’s “Be the Conductor” capital campaign. The grant will match dollar for dollar all 2022-23 donations from supporters who have not previously contributed to the center’s capital campaign, up to $100,000. The grant will support the addition of a new signature exhibit that tells the Black American story more completely, connecting past history with contemporary social justice issues.
The Dayton Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $1.2 million from its discretionary funds and Greenlight Grants process. In fiscal year 2022, the foundation reinstated the programs after more than a year of allocating funding to help nonprofits respond to COVID-19. Since July 1, 2021, the foundation has awarded grants to 43 organizations working to address emerging needs and opportunities in the region. Recipients include Beaver Creek Wetlands Association, East End Community Services, Gem City Kitties, and OneFifteen.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF) and the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, its largest affiliate, have announced a $500,000 endowment grant from the fund to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County (BGCOKC). The award is in honor of Nancy Anthony for her 35 years as director of OCCF and advisor to the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, and will be matched dollar-for-dollar from a $2.5 million gift philanthropist and author MacKenzie Scott made to BGCOKC in March.
Pennsylvania
The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced that the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert online giving campaign for nonprofits that provide essential human services in the region will take place August 9 at www.PittsburghGives.org. Every donation of at least $25 will trigger additional funding from a $532,000 incentive pool provided by the foundation, its affiliate, the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, and their donors. This year, the campaign’s five priority areas are child care, employment, eviction prevention and housing, food and nutrition, and physical and mental health care.
Washington, D.C.
The Greater Washington Community Foundation has announced more than $765,000 in grants awarded to nonprofits through two initiatives strengthening community and education in the District and Montgomery County—the Martha’s Table Community Impact Fund, a partnership between the foundation and Martha’s Table to strengthen Ward 8 nonprofit organizations historically excluded from institutional philanthropy, and the Children’s Opportunity Fund, which recently announced its launch as an independent nonprofit. Recipients include Action in Montgomery, the Civic Circle, Bright Beginnings, and Inner Thoughts, Inc.
West Virginia
The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) has announced a gift of $115,000 from Parkersburg Bridge Partners to establish a donor-advised fund, which will enable PBP to award grants to organizations and causes that are important to the company and community. This is one of PBP’s first charitable investments in the Mid-Ohio Valley, where the scheduled rehabilitation of Parkersburg Memorial Bridge began this month.
