Arizona 

The Arizona Community Foundation, the Arizona Republic, and Morrison Institute for Public Policy have announced the official launch of the Common Good Challenge, the fifth philanthropic prize competition offered under the New Arizona Prize banner. With three awards of $100,000 to the top collaborative teams, the Common Good Challenge will offer an opportunity for groups composed of individuals and organizations that have diverse viewpoints to identify a persistent problem that their community is facing and work together to develop a solution. Each team must be collaborative and reflect the communities they serve. Interested applicants must register by December 13, 2022 and complete their applications by January 18, 2023. 

California 

The Calaveras Community Foundation in Angels Camp has announced 19 grants totaling more than $110,000 to organizations working to address food and health issues, education, and historic preservation. Recipients of the 2022 grants include Common Grounds, Sierra Hope, the Mark Twain Badgers Booster Club, and Manzanita Writers Press.  

Connecticut 

The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut in New London has announced scholarships totaling more than $1 million to 323 students from 36 cities and towns across the region. Scholarships range from a one-time award of $500 to a multiyear scholarship of up to $5,000 per year.  

Indiana 

The Hamilton County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, has announced grants and investments for Hamilton County nonprofits, projects, and initiatives totaling $183,224. Recipients include Noblesville Schools Education Foundation, Janus Development Services, and Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County. 

Kentucky  

The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that more than 22,000 donors came together on September 15 to raise more than $8.1 million for area nonprofits during the foundation’s ninth annual Give for Good Louisville campaign. This year, eight donors who gave to organizations were randomly selected to receive a “Win,” “Place,” or “Show” prize of $20,000, $10,000, or $5,000 to boost their donation during the “Greatest Two Minutes in Giving” prize by Churchill Downs Inc. York Academy of Discovery, Inc. claimed the $20,000 prize. 

Maine 

The Maine Community Foundation awarded an $8,000 grant to the Old Bristol Historical Society for the exterior renovation of the south wall of the mill at Pemaquid Falls through the foundation’s Belvedere Historical Preservation Fund, Lincoln County News reports. Since acquiring the property in 2020, the Old Bristol Historical Society has been renovating the mill and converting the former Poole Brothers hardware store into the Bristol History Center. 

Minnesota 

The Minneapolis Foundation has announced more than $1.2 million in Reimagine Education grants to 22 schools and organizations that are advancing equity in the state’s K-12 education system. Recipients include the Advancing Equity Coalition, American Indian OIC, Groves Academy, and Project for Pride in Living. 

Nebraska 

The Omaha Community Foundation has announced the additions of Megan Stubenhofer-Barrett, Jody Skinner, and Michelle Swanger. Stubenhofer-Barrett is the new director of marketing and communications, Skinner will serve as an accounting coordinator, and Swanger is the controller. 

New Hampshire 

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has announced that Rick Fox is the winner of its 2022 Piscataqua Region Artist Advancement Grant. The $25,000 grant will enable Fox to work full-time expanding his gallery representation and audience. The other finalists for the 2022 award, who each received $1,000, were Shaina Gates, who works in alternative and experimental photography, and Isabella Rotman, who creates comics, zines, drawings, and installations.  

Washington, D.C. 

The Greater Washington Community Foundation has announced the appointment of Richard K. Bynum as chair of its board of trustees. Bynum serves as chief corporate responsibility officer for the PNC Financial Services Group.
