Community Foundation Update (6/21/14)
Georgia
The Clayton Fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has awarded grants totaling $25,000 to five local nonprofits working to make a measureable difference in the community. The recipients are Angkor Resource Center, Calvary Refuge, Good Shepherd Clinic, House of Dawn, and the Southern Regional Medical Center Foundation.
Kansas
The Central Kansas Community Foundation – Butler County, an affiliate of the Newton-based Central Kansas Community Foundation, has announced awards totaling more than $97,000, including scholarships totaling more than $63,000 to forty-two students.
Massachusetts
The Cape Cod Foundation in Yarmouthport has announced scholarships totaling $370,000 to one hundred and ten area students, including a $25,000 scholarship in honor of its twenty-fifth anniversary. The foundation's partner organization, the Cape Cod Association, announced an additional $450,000 in scholarships.
The Boston Foundation has announced that Boston Preparatory Charter Public School has been awarded the inaugural Pozen Prize for Charter Schools. The $80,000 prize is awarded to a charter school in the greater Boston area that exemplifies academic excellence and a quality learning environment.
North Dakota
The North Dakota Community Foundation in Grand Forks will participate in Philanthropic Preparedness, Resiliency, and Emergency Partnership, a two-year disaster-response program aimed at supporting local nonprofits in the immediate aftermath of a disaster as well as during the community rebuilding phase, the Bismarck Tribune reports. NDCF is one of eighteen foundations across the Midwest that has agreed to participate in the effort.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has named Colleen Durbin Mitchell as senior vice president for donor services. Mitchell previously headed the corporate foundations of the Imcera Group and Whirlpool.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced a grant of $75,000 through the Margaret Annis Boys Trust to help restore trees in Moore’s Little River Park, which was struck by a tornado on May 20, 2013. The trees to be planted average eight to ten feet in height and include bald cypress, white oak, Kentucky coffeetree, cedar elm, Shantung maple, Chinquipih oak, sawtooth oak, burr oak, Shumard oak, hackberry, and crapemyrtle.
Pennsylvania
The Erie Community Foundation has announced that Erie ExperienceVinyl will host a “record charity spin” on June 25 at the Sandbar to benefit Erie’s Future Fund. The fund is an initiative of Erie nonprofits and business leaders to provide high-quality early childhood education scholarships to low-income families in Erie County.
