California
The Senior Programs Fund, a committee-advised fund at the Santa Barbara Foundation, has awarded a one-time $50,000 Helen Paul Memorial Grant to Family Service Agency, which works to improve the health and well-being of the most vulnerable children, seniors, and families in Santa Barbara County. The fund was established earlier this year with the assets remaining after the dissolution of the nonprofit Senior Programs of Santa Barbara agency.
Colorado
The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County has announced that Josie Heath, its president since 1995, will retire at the end of the year.
Illinois
The Galesburg Community Foundation has awarded matching funds of up to $10,000 to twenty local nonprofits to establish endowments, the Register-Mail reports. The organizations include the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association, Learning Connections of Galesburg, Older Americans of Knox, and the Prairie Players Civic Theatre.
Indiana
The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, has announced that it will accept applications for its Community Crime Prevention Grant Program through 5:00 p.m. on August 1. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 will be awarded to organizations with a proven record of addressing systemic challenges in six Indianapolis high-crime neighborhoods. Priority will be given to efforts that address the needs of young African-American males in high crime areas, serve youth and adults who have had a previous interaction with the criminal or juvenile justice systems, or that specialize in violence reduction, intervention and prevention, and public safety partnerships or neighborhood-based strategies.
Massachusetts
The Cape Cod Foundation in Yarmouthport has awarded two grants totaling $1,000 through the Cape Cod Youth Force Committee, which comprised students at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and sought proposals from schools, afterschool programs, and organizations or groups that work with teenagers on Cape Cod. The recipients of the grants are the RFK Children's Action Corp — Cape Cod Adolescent Treatment Center ($600) and the Provincetown Jazz Festival ($400).
The Cambridge Community Foundation has announced grants to fifty-one local organizations totaling $334,336. Recipients include the Family Independence Initiative, Small Can Be Big, Cambridge Connects, and Self Esteem Boston.
Pennsylvania
The Philadelphia Foundation has elected Anthony J. Conti as its board chair. A board member since 2011, Conti has chaired the foundation's nominating and governance committee and is currently leading its strategic planning committee.
Washington
The Bainbridge Community Foundation has announced $243,661 in grants — a record amount — to fifty-three local nonprofits through its annual Community Grants Cycle. Recipients include the Bainbridge Public Library, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts, Space Craft, and North Kitsap Fishline.
The Seattle Foundation has announced the appointments of Michele Frix as chief of staff, Elaine Chu and Elizabeth Dixon List as philanthropic advisors, Alesandra Zielinski as director of the Seattle Regional Partnership, and Sally Gillis as senior officer of community programs.
Wisconsin
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has announced grants totaling $338,000 through its Mary L. Nohl Fund. Recipients include the Bradley Family Foundation, La Casa de Esperanza, Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail, and the Woodland Pattern Book Center.
