Donations for Los Angeles wildfire relief top $650 million

The Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles covered in wildfire smoke.

Charitable giving to relief efforts in the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires totals more than $650 million to date, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Sourced from the newspaper’s interviews with nonprofit executives and publicly announced fundraising efforts, the total exceeds the amount accumulated in the wake of the Maui wildfires (approximately $450 million), as well as fundraising for hurricanes Milton and Helene (more than $278 million), based on data from Candid. Online fundraising platforms like GoFundMe have already distributed $200 million in donations to people directly affected.

According to the Times, the L.A. Regional Food Bank, which has collected $5 million, expanded operations from six to seven days a week. And the California Community Foundation has raised $60 million in the month since the fires started.
