GAR Foundation Awards $2 Million to Ohio Nonprofits
The GAR Foundation in Akron has announced grants totaling more than $2 million to forty-one nonprofit organizations in northeastern Ohio, Crain's Cleveland Business reports.
The foundation provides support to organizations working in the areas of the arts, civics, education, and health and human services in the Summit County area. Grant recipients include the Greater Summit County Early Learning Center, also known as SCOPE Primary, which was awarded a general support grant of $435,000; Access Inc. and the Akron Civic Theatre, which received $70,000 and $95,000, respectively, for operations and capital improvements; and the Musical Arts Association, which awarded $100,000 for the endowment component of its Sound for the Centennial Campaign.
The foundation also announced its return to providing capital support after placing that program on hold for several years and awarded a total of $320,000 in "mission-critical" capital funding to fifteen organizations, including the Akron Area Arts Alliance and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
