Halton Healthcare in Halton Hills, Ontario, has announced a gift of 105 acres of land from the Walker Wood family appraised at approximately C$45 million ($32.6 million).

The land is the farm and former family home of the Wood family and was donated in memory of Neil Cameron Walker Wood, who passed away in 2021. The acreage is located south of Halton Healthcare’s Georgetown Hospital. The Halton Healthcare network provides healthcare services to nearly 400,000 residents in the communities of Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville.

“This is a remarkably generous gift from the Walker Wood family,” said Halton Healthcare president and CEO Melissa Farrell. “It creates exciting new possibilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of our communities and for the future redevelopment of Georgetown Hospital. We will engage with all our partners to determine how best to use these lands to deliver the greatest public benefit.”

“My husband, Neil, and I have made the Walker Wood Farm in Georgetown our home for over 40 years. The farm has been the center of our family during that time, a beautiful space where we have created many wonderful memories,” said Susan Wood. “We have always held a strong belief in giving back to our community, and it provides our family immense pleasure to donate this land in memory of my late husband. We are delighted that Halton Healthcare will honor my husband's legacy to advance health care for the people in this community for years to come.”
