The Home Depot Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $2 million to Volunteers of America affiliates to help address the housing and service needs of U.S. military veterans.
The grants include approximately $1.475 million in support of fifteen VOA programs in nine states working to refurbish or build housing for homeless veterans. Affiliates and programs receiving grants include VOA Delaware Valley, which will use the grant to provide transitional housing for up to a hundred male veterans in Camden, New Jersey; VOA Greater Ohio, which provides housing and services for fifty-four male veterans in Cleveland; and VOA Massachusetts, which runs a residential recovery program in Boston for up to eight women veterans who are coping with drug addiction and alcoholism.
The foundation also pledged $500,000 to help renovate Navy Village Apartments in San Pedro, California, operated by the Volunteers of America Greater Los Angeles. In addition, the foundation awarded $100,000 to VOA's national office in Alexandria, Virginia.
