Irvine Foundation awards $49.5 million in grants

The James Irvine Foundation has announced 22 grants totaling $49.45 million in support of four initiatives focused on supporting working Californians.

Funding awarded through its Better Careers initiative included a three-year, $5 million grant to Amalgamated Charitable Foundation Inc. to build the capacity of California’s public workforce development agencies to equitably serve and improve economic outcomes for workers paid low wages. Through its Fair Work initiative, the foundation awarded a three-year, $2 million grant to Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus to build economic security and justice for California workers—especially among low-income, immigrant, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian workers—as well as a three-year, of $1.8 million grant to UC Berkeley Labor Center.

Funding awarded through the foundation’s Just Prosperity initiative included a two-year, $1.5 million general operating support grant to California Budget & Policy Center and a three-year, $600,000 grant to Freedman Consulting, LLC to support public-private partnerships. Through its Priority Communities initiative, the foundation awarded a two-year grant of $7.55 million to San Joaquin Community Foundation.
