Milwaukee Art Museum Receives $2 Million for Arts Education Programming

Kohl's Department Stores has announced a three-year, $2 million grant to the Milwaukee Art Museum to continue the Kohl's Art Generation program, which was established in 2008 with the goal of delivering quality arts education to Milwaukee-area families.

Awarded through the Kohl's Cares cause-merchandise program, the grant will enable the museum to implement new arts education programming and will provide support for two new exhibitions and the creation of a new Kohl's Art Generation Lab, to be unveiled in 2015. Currently, visitors to the lab are able to X-ray a painting, change the frames on works of art, and ask museum curators about their careers and the exhibitions.

Established in 2008 to deliver quality arts education to Milwaukee-area families, the program includes a hands-on art studio that features a variety of art activities; an exhibition space used to educate children on the fundamentals of art; and Kohl's Color Wheels, a mobile art experience that brings creativity into the community via festivals, school events, and other gatherings throughout the year.

"The Kohl's Art Generation program has become the cornerstone of artistic inspiration for families who visit the Milwaukee Art Museum, thanks to Kohl's Cares long-standing generosity," said Brigid Globensky, the museum's senior director of education and public programs. "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Kohl's Cares and provide a fun and interactive art curriculum at a time when creativity is increasingly important to our community's future success."
