New York Community Trust Awards $7.6 Million in Grants
The New York Community Trust has announced forty-nine grants totaling $7.65 million to nonprofit organizations working in the areas of education, elder care, and the arts.
The awards include more than $800,000 in support of efforts to respond to federal policy changes and advocate against harmful changes to key programs. Grants to the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities and the New York Housing Conference, for example, will support efforts to advocate for the continuation of critical safety net programs, including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as well as affordable housing programs. Another grant, to Planned Parenthood, will support an advocacy campaign aimed at protecting access to reproductive health services in the state.
Other organizations receiving grants include the Legal Action Center, the New York Hall of Science, God's Love We Deliver, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, and the Structured Employment Economic Development Corporation.
"At a time when programs to improve health care, support the social safety net, and safeguard the environment are under assault, the trust is working for the well-being of all New Yorkers," said NYCT vice president for grants Patricia Jenny.
