OSF commits $3.3 million for human rights groups in Gaza, West Bank
The Open Society Foundations (OSF) has announced a $3.3 million emergency funding initiative in support of human rights organizations documenting violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel. OSF, which has been supporting partners in the region since 1999, has called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“As the political and humanitarian crisis unfolds, we are proud to step up our support to our partners. Now more than ever it is vital for donors to remain steadfast in their support to human rights defenders caught in this dire conflict and facing grave challenges,” said OSF president Mark Malloch-Brown.
Meanwhile, UNRWA has announced that the Singapore-based Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation has contributed $1.47 million to its Gaza Emergency Flash Appeal aimed at providing critical humanitarian supplies to 1.6 million refugees impacted by the war in Gaza.
And Jewish Federations of North America has raised nearly $638 million to provide emergency relief to Israel following the October 7 attacks by Hamas. As of November 10, $175 million had been allocated, including $41.6 million to the Jewish Agency, $11.2 million to NGOs in frontline local municipalities and regional councils, nearly $4.9 million to Magen David Adom, and $4.1 million to the Israel Trauma Coalition.
