The San Francisco-based Rosenberg Foundation has announced the appointment of KENDRA FOX-DAVIS, a long-time racial justice and gender justice advocate, as its chief program officer. She joins the foundation from the University of California, Office of the President, where she worked to protect the rights of survivors of sexual violence, ensuring compliance with Title IX across the university's ten campuses, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and the Office of the President. Prior to that, she served as a Thurgood Marshall Fellow and staff attorney at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area; worked as an attorney at the United States Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, leading civil rights investigations of harassment and discrimination on the basis of race and gender and investigating and resolving complaints of race and sex-based harassment and discrimination; served in the Legal-Policy department at the ACLU of Northern California; and worked as a training director for the Center for Third World Organizing and the NAACP National Voter Fund.

The Walton Family Foundation in Bentonville, Arkansas, has announced that global coach and expert TANYA M. ODOM will serve as its new equity and inclusion program director. In that newly created position, Odom, in partnership with the foundation leadership team, will guide the development of an overarching vision to ensure that the foundation’s grantmaking decisions, community engagement efforts, and strategic objectives reflect a commitment to DEI. A consultant, writer, coach, and thought leader on civil rights and DEI issues, Odom most recently worked with several United Nations entities to address racism and create anti-racist action plans and programs and also served as a partner with the UN.

The Los Angeles-based California Endowment has announced the planned retirement of chief investment officer RUTH WERNIG, who served in that position for eleven years, and the appointment of DAVID GREENBERG as its new CIO, effective June 1. Greenberg has served on the endowment’s Investment team since 2010, when he joined the organization as director of public markets, and for the past three years has held the position of deputy chief investment officer, helping to oversee the endowment's $3.9 billion portfolio. Prior to joining TCE, he worked at the University of Southern California as a senior leader overseeing the university’s endowment hedge fund investments. 

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has announced technologist and former Google CEO ERIC SCHMIDT as its next board chair, succeeding LOUIS V. GERSTNER, JR., who has served as chair since 2013. Schmidt, who joined the Broad Institute board in 2012, will assume leadership of the board after Gerstner's successful eight-year tenure, during which the institute expanded its focus and impact around mental illness, genome editing, cancer diagnostics, therapeutics and drug discovery, the development of software tools to drive the intersection of biology and machine learning, and COVID-19 research and testing. Gerstner served as chief executive officer and chairman of the board of IBM Corporation from April 1993 to March 2002 and as chairman until his retirement in December 2002. Following IBM, Mr. Gerstner joined the Carlyle Group, a global private equity firm, serving as chairman from January 2003 until October 2008 and, upon retiring from the position, as a senior advisor until September 2016.

The board of New York Public Radio (NYPR) has announced the election of TIMOTHY A. WILKINS as chair. A well-known attorney, Wilkins joined NYPR's board of trustees in 2018 and was elected vice chair in 2020. He will succeed MAYO S. STUNTZ, JR., whose term as chair began in April 2017. Wilkins is the global partner for client sustainability at Freshfields Bruckhaus, where he leads the firm’s sustainability practice, advising clients on issues related to environmental, social, and governance matters. In addition, he co-led the founding of the New York Circular City Initiative, a collaboration of city agencies, businesses, and foundations working to promote employment and a greener environment for the city, and served as chair of the Governance Committee and on the executive committee of the board of the NYC Economic Development Corporation. He has served on several nonprofit boards in the past, including the Public Theater, the Cyrus Vance Center for International Justice, Opportunity Agenda, and NYC Global Partners. In 2016, 2017, and 2020, he was recognized by EMPower, Yahoo! Finance and the Financial Times as one of the Top 100 Ethnic Minority Executives in the country, and he was also named Minority Lawyer of the Year at the U.S. Chambers Diversity Awards in 2016.

The D.C.-based National Human Services Assembly, a leading voice for the human services sector in the United States, has selected VICTOR VALENTINE as its new executive director. In that role, Valentine, will oversee the expansion of the National Assembly's strategic direction, with a focus on enhancing the sector’s positive impact on American communities. Before joining the National Assembly, he served as founder and CEO of Nfrastruct, LLC, a nonprofit capacity-building consultancy. His past professional experience includes leadership positions with the Maryland Philanthropy Network, the New York City Urban League, the United Way of New York City, the Baltimore Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, and the Maryland General Assembly.

The board of the Education Trust in Washington, D.C., has named DENISE FORTE, the organization's senior vice president for partnerships and engagement, as interim CEO. JOHN B. KING, JR. will remain at the organization part-time as president to support Forte’s transition and will take a full leave of absence later this year, as he pursues a gubernatorial bid in the state of Maryland. Forte brings more than two decades of experience in the federal legislative and executive branches an will work to further progressive education, family policy, and strategic leadership that bolsters the organization’s efforts to engage policy makers and diverse coalitions of advocates in securing equity-advancing educational policy change at the national, state, and local levels.

In other news, the National Audubon Society in New York City has announced that DAVID YARNOLD and the organization’s board of directors have mutually agreed that Yarnold will step down as CEO, effective May 14. The board has named ELIZABETH GRAY, who joined the organization in March as the first woman in its 115-year history to hold the title of president, as interim CEO while a search is conducted for a successor. Yarnold will remain available to the board and Gray through June to ensure a smooth transition. 

And PND notes the passing of DONALD H. HUBBS, a former president, chair, and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles-based Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, on April 20 at the age of 103. "[Donald] was a trusted advisor to my late father, Barron Hilton, and brother, Steve Hilton, as they each led the foundation into new chapters," said current board chair Hawley Hilton McAuliffe in an email. "Steve built on the strategic approach to philanthropy that Mr. Hubbs introduced and carried it forward as president and CEO, then as chair, before stepping down late last year….We are profoundly grateful to Mr. Hubbs for his commitment, steadfast loyalty and integrity. I am personally grateful for his partnership and friendship with my family across so many generations. In his humble and dignified manner, he led by shining example and stayed the course to improve the lives of individuals living in poverty and experiencing disadvantage throughout the world."
