The Booz Allen Foundation in Washington, D.C., has announced CHRISTINE HOISINGTON as its new executive director. Hoisington has been a member of Booz Allen's Community Impact & Philanthropy Team since 2008, serving in a leadership role for the last several years, and helped stand up the Booz Allen Foundation in 2017. Prior to joining the firm, she served on the board of directors for Cultural Tourism DC, as director of partnership programs with Smithsonian Business Ventures, as director of contributing membership with the Smithsonian Institution, and in various roles with the World Federation for Mental Health and the American Red Cross.
The Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation has named STEPHEN PLANK as its new vice president of research, evaluation, evidence and data (REED), effective June 1. Plank joins the foundation from the American Institutes for Research (AIR), where he had served as a managing researcher since 2015. Prior to AIR, he served as director of research and evaluation at the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Social Innovation Fund. Before that, he spent nearly two decades in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins University, serving as a faculty member, a research scientist, and the research co-director and founder of the Baltimore Education Research Consortium.
The Schott Foundation for Public Education in New York City has announced DIANA TATE VERMEIRE as its new senior vice president of strategy. She joins the organization after serving as a university diversity officer and vice president for inclusive excellence at California State University-Sacramento. Prior to joining Sacramento State, she served as director of the racial justice initiative at the ACLU of Northern California, managing campaigns related to voting rights, K-12 education, the school-to-prison pipeline, and policing on campuses, and as a staff attorney for the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Following a national search, Howard University has announced the appointment of PHYLICIA RASHAD as dean of the recently reestablished College of Fine Arts. A Howard alumna, Rashad graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s in fine arts and wen on to become a household name when she portrayed Claire Huxtable on "The Cosby Show." In the years since, she has maintained a busy career in television, film, and on stage, include appearances as Carol on NBC's "This Is Us"; as Diana Dubois on the Fox TV series "Empire"; as Lena Younger in Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun"; as Aunt Ester in August Wilson's "Gem of the Ocean"; as The Witch in Stephen Sondheim"s "Into the Woods"; and as Violet Weston in Tracey Letts' "August Osage County." In addition, she has served as guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member, conducting master's-level classes at Howard, New York University, Vassar College, Carnegie Mellon, Wayne State University, Juilliard, the Black Arts Institute of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, and the Ten Chimneys Foundation at the Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne Estate, among others.
Dallas-based Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, has announced the election of eight new members to its board of directors. The new members are: RENEE BAKER, head of advisor inclusion networks at Raymond James; TRACI OTEY BLUNT, senior vice president, corporate communications for the National Football League; MICHELLE BOTTOMLEY, chief executive officer of the Modern Growth Exchange, a tech-enabled growth acceleration business; JULIA HARRIS, president, Ronin Holdings: GAIL HEIMANN, president and CEO, Weber Shandwick; ANDI OWEN, chief executive officer, Herman Miller, Inc.: LUKE SAUTER, divisional vice president of specialty pharmacy strategy at Walgreens: and SEAN SLOVENSKI, most recently, president of health and wellness for Walmart. In addition to the new members, the board elected ED DANDRIDGE to service as chair and JERRI JOHNSON to serve as vice chair. Dandridge succeeds PETER BRUNDAGE, who will continue to serve as a member of the Komen board.

The Society of American Historians has announced the election of Teagle Foundation president ANDREW DELBANCO as president and ANNETTE GORDON-REED as vice president. Also assuming office in May are the newly elected members of the executive board: MARGOT CANADY, JOANNE FREEMAN, KELLY LYTLE HERNANDEZ, and GEOFFREY WARD.
In other news, the Dallas-based Texas Women's Foundation, one of the largest women's funds in the world, has announced that President/CEO ROSLYN DAWSON THOMPSON will retire at the end of 2021. Dawson Thompson, who has held the position for ten years, will remain active in the role until her successor is named. TWF is initiating a nationwide search as part of its succession plan.
