The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has announced the addition of two members to its leadership team: MARGARET CONNELLY will return to the foundation as acting managing director for founder initiatives effective August 2, and KELLEY GULLEY will join as chief of staff to foundation president Fay Twersky starting August 9. Connelly will oversee Blank's personal giving, including legacy grantmaking; support for veterans, stuttering research, and transformation of Atlanta's Westside neighborhood; and each of the Blank Family of Businesses' Associate-Led Giving committees. Gulley most recently led the James Irvine Foundation's Better Careers initiative and served on the foundation's Impact, Assessment & Learning team.

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has named CHARLES WRIGHT, JR. to the position of vice president of strategy, finance, and operations. In this newly created position, Wright, a K-12 education executive with more than twenty years' experience working for equitable outcomes, will be responsible for strategic planning, project management, finance, and operations. He previously served as the deputy superintendent for Seattle Public Schools, as chief strategy officer for Denver Public Schools, as assistant superintendent for Duval County Public Schools, and as portfolio manager for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Daniels Fund has announced the appointment of LUKE RAGLAND as senior vice president of its grants program. Ragland previously served as president of Ready Colorado, an education policy organization based in Denver, and as vice president of policy at Colorado Succeeds. He is a board member of the Colorado Charter School Institute, a statewide charter school authorizing organization.

The J. Paul Getty Trust has announced that JAMES CUNO plans to retire as president and CEO after a decade overseeing the trust and its four major programs: the Getty Museum, Getty Conservation Institute, Getty Research Institute, and Getty Foundation. During Cuno's tenure, Getty expanded its outreach and engagement in the Los Angeles region and in April 2020 provided $10 million to seed the LA Arts Recovery Fund, which provided more than $37 million in pandemic recovery support for ninety local small and midsize arts organizations. Prior to joining Getty in 2011, Cuno served as president of the Art Institute of Chicago, as director and professor of the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, and as the Elizabeth and John Moors Cabot Director of the Harvard University Art Museums. Cuno plans to remain in his role until his successor is selected and in place.

The George Gund Foundation has announced the election of MARVIN HAYES to the board, replacing outgoing trustee MARK JOSEPH. Hayes is director of Amare Public Affairs, a progressive public affairs firm, and previously served as a special advisor to the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign in 2020, vice president of business development at Data Genomix, director of external relations at the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency, and director of urban redevelopment and infrastructure for Ohio governor Ted Strickland.

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has announced that JEHAN VELJI has been named the next director of its Effective Philanthropy Group effective September 20. As director, Velji will lead a team that both makes grants to strengthen nonprofits and the philanthropic sector and provides internal guidance across Hewlett's programs on supporting grantee capacity and developing, implementing, and evaluating grant strategies. She currently is managing director of portfolio strategy and management at Blue Meridian Partners. She previously served as senior portfolio director at the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation and as a partner at the Bridgespan Group.

The Simons Foundation has announced the appointment of astrophysicist DAVID SPERGEL as president, succeeding co-founder MARILYN SIMONS, who has served in that role since the foundation was launched in 1994. Spergel previously served as director of the Center for Computational Astrophysics (CCA) at the Flatiron Institute — the foundation's internal research division overseen by co-founder JIM SIMONS — and as chair of the astrophysics department at Princeton University, where he joined NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe project as a theorist. As president, Spergel will oversee the foundation's work of advancing the frontiers of research in mathematics and the basic sciences while continuing to conduct his own research. CCA group leader SHIRLEY HO will serve as interim director until Spergel's successor is appointed.

The American LGBTQ+ Museum has announced the election of five new members to its board: LETI GOMEZ, KATHERINE GRAINGER, ROGELIO PLASENCIA, SUSAN STRYKER, and COYA WHITE-HAT ARTICHOKER. Gomez is former president of ENLACE and a founding co-chair and executive director of LLEGÓ, the first national Latinx LGBT organization in Washington, D.C. Grainger is a partner and managing director of the New York office of Civitas Public Affairs Group and a thought leader on gender, race, and sexuality. Plasencia is manager of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Apollo Circle young patrons program and development officer for its curatorial "Friends" groups; he previously served as director of membership for the Phillips Collection. Stryker, who has helped shape the cultural conversation on transgender issues for thirty years as a historian, filmmaker, and theorist, serving as executive director of the GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco and as director of the Institute for LGBT Studies at University of Arizona, currently holds the Barbara Lee Distinguished Chair in Women's Leadership at Mills College. And White-Hat Artichoker, an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, is a program officer for safety, health, and economic justice at the Ms. Foundation for Women and a founding member of the First Nations Two Spirit Collective.

The Black Economic Alliance Foundation has announced the appointment of SAMANTHA TWEEDY as its inaugural president effective August 23. An attorney with nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of nonprofit, philanthropy, and issue advocacy, Tweedy will lead the foundation's strategy to address systems of inequity that prevent Black communities from thriving and hold back the broader economy. She most recently served as chief partnerships and impact officer at Robin Hood, where she created the $17 million Power Fund to invest in leaders of color, led the $15 million High-Quality Schools Fund to support innovative school models for New York City's most underresourced communities, and instituted the foundation's first participatory initiative to engage community members directly in grantmaking decisions.

The Center for American Progress and the Center for American Progress Action Fund have named PATRICK GASPARD as president and CEO of CAP and CEO of CAP Action. Gaspard, who succeeds Neera Tanden, most recently served as president of the Open Society Foundations. He previously served as U.S. ambassador to South Africa, as executive director of the Democratic National Committee, and as assistant to President Barack Obama and director of the White House Office of Political Affairs. He started as a union organizer and rose to become executive vice president for politics and legislation of the Local 1199 branch of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and went on to serve as its national political director.

The Hispanic Federation has announced the promotion of INGRID ÀLVAREZ to vice president for policy and strategic engagement, YANIDSI VELEZ to New England regional director, and LAUDI CAMPO to Florida state director. Àlvarez, who previously served as New England regional director, will now oversee the organization's public policy priorities and advocacy strategies across the federation's state and regional offices. Velez, who previously served as Florida state director, will bring her more than fifteen years' experience in community development and strategic advocacy to the organization's Connecticut state office, while Campo, who has served as the deputy director in the Florida state office since 2019, will succeed Velez.

The Kansas Health Foundation has announced the election of JILL DOCKING and MELISSA MCCOY to its board effective July 1. Docking currently serves as senior vice president of the Docking Group, a Wichita-based Baird financial services firm. McCoy is assistant city manager/public affairs for the City of Dodge City, where she oversees the community's public information office as well as the local convention and visitors bureau.

The Ms. Foundation for Women has announced the return of RENE REDWOOD to its board and the election of GWEN CHAPMAN, CHARLINE GIPSON, DIANE MANUEL, and PAMELA SHIFMAN as new members. Redwood is CEO of Redwood Enterprise and directs initiatives focused on judicial, legislative, commercial, and political wins for public- and private-sector organizations and nonprofits. Chapman is the chief compliance officer and corporate social responsibility chair for Teleflex, Inc. Gipson is a co-founder and equity partner of Davillier Law Group, a full-service business law practice with offices in Louisiana and Idaho. Manuel currently works in financial services after many years in the philanthropic sector and serves as board chair of the Women's Foundation of California. Shifman, currently a senior fellow at Panorama Global, previously served as director of initiatives for girls and women, then as executive director of the NoVo Foundation.
