The Doris Duke Foundation has announced the appointment of former AMC Networks president of marketing LINDA SCHUPACK as chief influence and marketing officer. In this newly created position, she will have oversight of communications and public relations, digital strategy, branding, and events. At AMC Networks, Schupack oversaw brand and consumer marketing for the company’s hits such as “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad”; she previously led key marketing functions at Nickelodeon.
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation has announced the election of three new members to its board: CARLOS RANGEL, vice president and chief investment officer for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation; CARMEN TAPIO, founder of North End Teleservices, LLC, Nebraska Black Women United, The NET Work Spot, and Forever North Real Estate; and MAURICE ALVIN WATSON, co-founder and principal of Credo Philanthropy Advisors, LLP.
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has announced the appointment of ALLAN MADOC as program director for San Jose, effective November 6. Madoc is a Stanford University Sloan Fellow with an extensive background in investing in outcomes-driven entrepreneurs and institutions and a decade-long connection to the city.
The McKnight Foundation has announced the hiring of TEHOUT SELAMEAB as senior program officer for learning. Selameab is a strategic research, planning, and evaluation professional with 20 years of experience conceptualizing, managing, and evaluating community-based programs. She founded and served as CEO of arcadia research & evaluation, where she led a team of women and women of color evaluators, facilitators, and community liaisons with a passion for community-based health equity efforts.
Artadia has announced the appointment of PATTON HINDLE as its next executive director, effective October 23. Hindle joins Artadia from Kickstarter, where she established and led Forward Funds, the company’s first social impact program.
The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) has announced the election of Marguerite Casey Foundation president and CEO CARMEN ROJAS to board chair. She replaces Laphonza Butler, who has been appointed to California’s U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the death of Dianne Feinstein last week. Rojas previously served as vice chair of CDF’s board.
CDF also announced that CHERYL COOK-POSLEY will serve as its new national director of movement building, in which role she will steward the organization’s enterprise-wide efforts in community movement building through leadership development, organizing, partnerships, and state-based advocacy. Cook-Posley most recently served as chief impact officer at the Virginia-based nonprofit United Community and has also held leadership positions at Central Union Mission, the University of Virginia’s Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning, and ICF International.
The DC Bar Foundation has named four new members to its board of directors: GAIL MAKODE, chief legal officer and general counsel for Omega Healthcare Investors; JEHAN PATTERSON, counsel in Debevoise & Plimpton’s White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group; JAYA SAXENA, director of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Spencer Stuart; and KENYATTAH ROBINSON, president and CEO of the Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District, one of the District of Columbia’s 12 business improvement districts. The foundation also appointed STEPHANIE BITTO, a senior manager and senior counsel at Capital One, to its advisory board.
Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) has announced JANELLE DURAY as its president and CEO, effective October 1. Duray joined JAG 13 years ago as an intern and rose through the ranks to her most recent position as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Before her tenure with JAG, Duray worked at the Association of American Law Schools and served on state board and committee appointments at the Minnesota Governor's Office.
The League of Women Voters (LWV) has announced the appointment of JULIETTE BOBERG as director of corporate and organizational partnerships, in which role she will build strategic partnerships with businesses and organizations that share LWV’s goals. Boberg previously served as senior director at Impactual, a DC-based social impact consultancy, where she led the firm’s corporate social responsibility work.
The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy has announced the appointment of three new board members, effective October 1: SARITA GUPTA, vice president of U.S. Programs at the Ford Foundation; NANA GYAMFI, executive director of Black Alliance for Just Immigration; and ERIC WARD, executive vice president of Race Forward. Missouri Foundation for Health president and CEO of DWAYNE PROCTOR had been elected the board’s new chair, succeeding Children’s Defense Fund president and CEO Starsky Wilson and heading a new Executive Committee that includes DAAYIAH BILAL-THREATS of the National Education Association as vice chair, DON RAGONA of the Native American Rights Fund as secretary, MOLLY SCHULTZ HAFID of Butler Family Fund as treasurer, and FARHAD IBRAHIMI of Chorus Foundation as the at-large member.
The Phillips Collection has announced the appointment of ELIZABETH RACHEVA as chief advancement officer. She previously served as vice president of strategic planning and chief advancement officer at Washington Performing Arts, which she joined in 2016 as chief philanthropy officer.
