Phillips Academy Andover receives $25 million from Oscar Tang

Phillips Academy Andover, an independent, coeducational secondary school in Andover, Massachusetts, has announced a $25 million gift from alumnus Oscar Tang to bolster financial aid for students.

In addition to funding other key priorities, including academic innovation, the gift will expand financial aid and strengthen the school’s need-blind admission program.

Trustee emeritus, Tang served as board president from 2004 to 2012. He previously supported the Tang Scholars program, an endowed fund that provides tuition relief and supports cultural enrichment, music lessons, and other student needs such as laptops and winter clothing. His latest gift boosts his total support of the school to $66 million.

“We are profoundly grateful for Oscar’s inspiring leadership and for his unparalleled legacy of generosity to our school,” said Amy Falls, president of the board of trustees. “He believes strongly in the promise of youth from every quarter and the ideal that an Andover education can be life changing.”
