Quantum Foundation Awards $1.2 Million to Palm Beach Nonprofits
The Quantum Foundation in West Palm Beach, Florida, has announced grants totaling more than $1.2 million to local nonprofit organizations.
The largest grant ($450,000) will support a community collaboration between the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Palm Beach County Medical Society, Hospice By-the-Sea, and Hospice of the Palm Beaches to provide an educational outreach program that includes discussions of end-of-life issues. The effort will include outreach to medical personnel, social workers, and nursing home and hospital administrators, as well as the legal community, about the importance of engaging patients and clients in such discussions before the onset of life-threatening conditions.
"A time when our feelings are the strongest is not the time to discuss our end-of-life wishes," said foundation president Jeannette Corbett. "Our goal is to stimulate these conversations now so that our wishes are known and upheld."
