St. Mark's School Receives $5 Million for Building Renovation

St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts, has received a $5 million challenge grant from an anonymous foundation to fund substantial renovations to its historic main building as part of its "St. Mark's 2020" strategic plan.

The renovations will include space for the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, which will work to identify, adapt, and introduce new educational approaches, support faculty development, provide enrichment and academic support for students, and preserve the single-building campus model established at the school's founding in 1865. Other core initiatives of the school's strategic plan include STEM education and global citizenship.

"St. Mark's 2020 is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the school," said executive director of development Kirk Swenson. "This grant will inspire the generosity of other loyal St. Markers who wish to see the school serve as a beacon of educational innovation. With committed philanthropic partners, St. Mark's will fulfill the vision laid out by St. Mark's 2020 and create an institution that fully lives up to the promise of Age Quod Agis ["to the business at hand"] in the twenty-first century and beyond."
