White Family Foundation commits up to $25 million to Crossroads YMCA
Crossroads YMCA, in partnership with the City of Hammond, Indiana, has announced a $10 million gift from the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation in support of a new and expanded facility.
The gift matches a commitment by the city, and will be augmented by a challenge established by the foundation that will match every dollar donated to the project on a 1:1.5 basis, up to $15 million, with room and area sponsorship opportunities also available.
When finished, the 100,000-square-foot facility at the former Woodmar Mall/Carson Pirie Scott site will serve fifty thousand people in north Lake County and feature an outdoor waterpark, wellness programming, and expanded services for seniors, while adding approximately two hundred jobs to the local economy. Groundbreaking on the project is planned for 2022, with the facility slated to open in 2024.
"Partnering with the YMCA to bring a destination attraction for families will complete the rebirth of the former Woodmar Mall site," said Hammond mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. "The city's commitment to the very successful Sportsplex next door creates a complete campus for families to enjoy both facilities for years to come."
