Wyss Foundation awards $1.3 million to promote economic opportunities

The Wyss Foundation has announced a $1.3 million grant to the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL), a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and policy advocacy organization working to promote financial fairness and economic opportunity in the United States.

The CRL focuses its work on protecting consumers from predatory lending practices and advancing consumer protections that create a fairer financial marketplace. The grant will help the organization address excessive overdraft fees charged by lenders and predatory triple-digit interest rate loans. In addition, CRL will provide robust analysis and outreach materials to inform and empower consumers, local advocates, and national partners.

“The Wyss Foundation’s support is critical to continuing the center’s work for fair and equitable financial opportunities so that families are able to build and protect wealth, establish financial stability, and create stronger, more resilient communities,” said CRL president Mike Calhoun.

“We’re proud to support the Center for Responsible Lending in its work to achieve economic justice for communities around the country,” said Wyss Foundation president Molly McUsic. “Americans deserve an economy that works fairly for all of us, not just a few.”
