KnowledgeWorks Foundation

Mission:
To increase the number and diversity of people who value and access education by creating and improving opportunities at formal educational institutions and through community organizations.

Background:
The KnowledgeWorks Foundation, a grantmaking public charity, was created through the reorganization of the Student Loan Funding Corporation. It focuses its efforts on adult learning, college access and success, communities and schools, and high school reform.

Outstanding Web Features:
The whizzy, interactive Map of Future Forces Affecting Education: 2006-2016, the product of a joint effort with the Institute for the Future, is comprised of five elements: drivers (six global movements with the greatest impact on education); impact areas (five key areas of activity where major trends are viewed from the perspective of family, community, and markets); trends (major shifts, new phenomena, and concepts that will shape the future context of public education); hotspots (key trend that have broad impact on education and often make good starting points for exploring the map); and dilemmas (challenges facing education that can't be solved with either/or thinking but instead require new strategic solutions that go beyond simple problem solving). Visitors can bookmark topics of interest, tag topics with keywords of their own choosing, or join a topic-related discussion.
