Toyota Ideas for Good
Mission:
To empower people to imagine new possibilities.
Background:
Launched in November, Ideas for Good invites the general public to submit an idea in one of five categories that uses Toyota's technology for a purpose that benefits society and is unrelated to automobiles. Winners of the contest, which will be announced on May 9, will receive a new Toyota Prius, Highlander Hybrid, or Venza, and have the opportunity to work with experts to further develop their ideas.
Outstanding Web Features:
The Ideas for Good Web site features information about the technologies included in the contest — T.H.U.M.S. (Total HUman Model for Safety), an advanced injury-simulation software that measures more than a conventional crash test dummy can; the Solar Powered Ventilation System, which helps keep the interior air temperature near the outside ambient temperature; Hybrid Synergy Drive, which converts braking energy into electricity; the Advanced Parking Guidance System, which utilizes ultrasonic sensors to detect open parking spaces and helps guide the car into those spaces; and Touch Tracer Display, a touch-activated display system that allows drivers to control music, temperature, and other features from the steering wheel — as well as a challenge timeline and a video about the contest. Site visitors can submit an idea, browse the ideas gallery, learn more about the panelists who will choose the winners in the competition, and watch videos that detail how Toyota's automotive technologies have been used in the past for social good.
