The Boston Foundation has announced quarterly discretionary grants totaling $1.4 million that will be disbursed in January, as well as $22 million in grants and scholarships for the July-September quarter, including $14.5 million from its donor-advised funds.

Discretionary grants were awarded to twelve nonprofit organizations working in the areas of community improvement and development, the arts, and youth empowerment. Arts grants awarded by the foundation included a $200,000 grant over three years to Company One, a theater troupe that uses art to foster social change, build community, and eliminate prejudice; while youth services organizations receiving grants included Teach for America ($150,000 over two years), the Posse Foundation ($100,000), and Jewish Vocational Service, Inc. ($125,000).
