Community Foundation Update (01/15/2022)
Connecticut
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has announced a three-year, $215,000 grant to Friends of Keney Park toward the hiring of an executive director. The park, which is considered a significant asset for Hartford, especially its North End neighborhoods, provides open space and myriad activities that promote community health and connection. The grant is part of the foundation’s Higher Opportunity Neighborhoods portfolio, and the funding will help the Friends of Keney Park create more opportunities for safe and healthy outdoor activities.
Indiana
The Dearborn Community Foundation in Lawrenceberg has announced a $1,000 proactive grant to the Aurora Public Library District in support of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program, through which free, high-quality books are mailed to children. In 2021, each of the foundation’s fifteen trustees selected a recipient of the proactive grants, which are awarded from DCF’s unrestricted endowment funds.
Maine
Fifteen projects will receive grants totaling $619,000 through the Maine Community Foundation’s Maine Land Protection grant program to conserve more than 50,000 acres and create land conservation easements across the state, the Bangor Daily News reports. Established in 2020, the program awarded $145,000, while donors with advised funds at the foundation contributed an additional $474,000. Recipients include the Bangor Land Trust, Kennebec Estuary Land Trust, and Somerset Woods.
Massachusetts
The Community Foundation for Nantucket has selected Sunny Daily as its new program director, effective February 1, the Inquirer and Mirror reports. Prior to joining the foundation, Daily was the site director for Health Imperative’s clinic on the island. She will succeed Jeanne Miller, who has served as program director for the past eight years and is retiring in the spring.
Ohio
The Cleveland Foundation has announced that Colette Jones will join its leadership team as chief marketing officer, effective February 28. Jones joins the foundation with more than 25 years of marketing and communications experience, most recently serving as chief marketing officer at Destination Cleveland.
Pennsylvania
The Pittsburgh Foundation has announced thirty-six grants totaling $569,000 through its Small and Mighty grants program. Since its inception in 2016, the program, which is focused on helping community-based organizations with budgets of $600,000 or less working to address poverty and provide assistance with basic needs, has awarded grants totaling $2.16 million. The latest recipients include Autism Urban Connections, Eden’s Farm, the Pittsburgh Dream Center, and the Early Excellence Project.
Texas
The Dallas Foundation has announced the addition of Robert Bisor, Jaimee Eddington, Kevin Murphy, and Susana Cordova to its board of governors. Bisor serves as a principal with First Western Capital, LLC. Eddington is a regional leader for the Americas at Heidrick & Struggles executive search firm. Murphy is the president of the ExxonMobil Foundation. And Cordova became deputy superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District in 2021 after serving as superintendent of Denver Public Schools.
Virginia
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia in Oakton has awarded a grant of $52,000 to NOVA Labs, Inside NOVA reports. Awarded through the foundation’s Innovation Fund, the grant will support innovation and entrepreneurship. The Innovation Fund uses a venture philanthropy model of grantmaking to bolster investment opportunities in the region.
Washington
The Seattle Foundation has announced the election of Amy Carter to its board of trustees. Carter serves as director of community engagement at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
