Arizona
The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff, an affiliate of the Arizona Community Foundation, has established the Flagstaff Flash Flood Disaster Relief Fund with a $10,000 seed grant from ACF in support of recovery and rebuilding efforts. The fund will address post-flood recovery, repair, and community rebuilding efforts, including environmental and infrastructure projects, community cleanup, support for displaced families and animals, and rehabilitation and rebuilding of damaged buildings or homes resulting from the flash floods.
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona in Tucson has announced three grants totaling $25,000 in support of COVID-19 relief efforts. Recipients are the American Red Cross Southern Arizona Chapter, Marshall Home for Men, and the St. Francis Shelter/Z-Mansion.
California
The Marin Community Foundation has announced that its Pirkle Jones Fund has selected Tiffanie Turner as the eleventh recipient of a grant from its Visual Artist Support Program, which recognizes promising emerging and mid-career artists living in Marin County. Established to honor Marin photographer Pirkle Jones, who died in 2009, the fund awards a $25,000 grant to the selected artist.
The Escondido Community Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, has announced the availability of grant funding through the 2021/2022 ECF mural project, which aims to enhance the quality of life for those who live, work, and play in Escondido by beautifying the community with local art. The project is open to Escondido-based organizations, including 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, or government agencies that provide services to the local community. Grants of up to $35,000 will be awarded in support of proposals that demonstrate the power of arts and culture to help build a more vibrant and engaged community. The deadline to apply is 5:00 PST on October 4.
Georgia
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced that it has retained Disciplina Group as investment consultants for part of the foundation's $1.3 billion asset portfolio. A Nashville-based, African American- and women-owned firm, Disciplina was chosen after a national review involving more than a dozen investment consultants.
Massachusetts
The Boston Foundation has announced the appointment of Catherine T. Morris as its director of arts and culture. Morris, who currently serves as founding executive director of the Boston Art & Music Soul (BAMS) Fest, will take up her new role on September 7.
Michigan
The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $2.6 million to thirty-two nonprofit programs in its first round of 2021 grantmaking. Recipients include Black Wall Street, Emergent Justice, Kalamazoo Defender, and Vibrant Kalamazoo.
Pennsylvania
The Chester County Community Foundation in West Chester has announced the appointment of Jason Arbacheski as its new gift planning and stewardship director. He most recently served as director of development for Community Volunteers in Medicine and is on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Philadelphia Chapter.
Texas
The George W. Bush Institute has announced the five recipients of its 2021 North Korea Freedom Scholarship. Established in 2017 and administered by Communities Foundation of Texas, the North Korea Freedom Scholarship is designed to help North Korean escapees and their children pursue higher education and build productive, prosperous lives as new Americans. This year, a total of $50,000 in scholarships was awarded to community college and university students who aspire to a variety of careers in fields including science, sociology, education, and medicine. To date, scholarships totaling $169,500 has been awarded to twenty-six refugees.
The North Texas Community Foundation in Fort Worth has announced the appointment of Christopher White as its new chief financial officer. White will succeed Stan Ninemire, who has served in the role since 2016 and will continue to consult with NTCF on investment management and non-cash asset transactions.
Wisconsin
The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has announced the appointment of five new members to the advisory board of its Women's Fund of Greater Green Bay. Lindsey Petasek is youth apprenticeship manager at the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. Kimberly Sawyer serves as talent acquisition partner for Eversana. Joanna Schreurs and Stephanie Schultz both serve in marketing communications, Schreurs with LaForce and Schultz with Festival Foods. And Colleen Simpson is the vice president of student services and regional learning centers at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.
