Alabama
The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced that its Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services is accepting proposals for its fourth annual grant cycle. The fund provides support to organizations that work with traditional companion animals such as dogs, cats, and horses. The deadline to apply is April 30.
Indiana
The Legacy Fund of Hamilton County, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, has announced $103,000 in grants and $6,800 in Legacy Fund Community Scholarships. The funds were awarded through the Legacy Fund's Community Endowment Fund and the Sheridan and Noblesville funds, which contributed $2,000 and $5,000, respectively, to city-specific grants.
New York
The Northern New York Community Foundation in Watertown has awarded ten grants totaling more than $30,000, WNYF reports. Several grants were recommended by the Watertown High School youth philanthropy council, including $2,300 to launch a food-backpack program at the Indian River Middle School and $1,500 to the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired for adaptive aids. The foundation also awarded $10,000 to the Wanakena Historical Association, $5,000 the Macsherry Library, and $5,000 in support of the Norwood Village Green Concert series.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced that applications for the John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Fund/Guernsey County Foundation are due Friday May 30, 2014. The Shepard Fund awards grants to benefit cultural and economic programs focused on Cambridge and Guernsey counties.
Utah
The Utah Foundation in Salt Lake City is working to strengthen the state's economy by developing partnerships between businesses and educators, KSL.com reports. The foundation, which has been examining ways to encourage partnerships, recently hosted discussions between policy makers, educators, and education groups to determine how best to meet the goals of a state initiative to increase, by 2020, the percentage of Utah's population with a college degree or technical certificate to 66 percent, from 43 percent today.
Vermont
The Vermont Community Foundation in Middlebury has announced that Patrick Berry will serve as its vice president for philanthropy. Berry currently is commissioner of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.
