Community Foundation Update (6/07/14)
Indiana
Through the 2014 Marion County-City of Indianapolis' Community Crime Prevention Grant program, the Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, has announced $159,000 in expedited Phase I grants to sixteen local nonprofits. The allocation focuses on 2014 summer job programs for youth and crime-deterrent programming for at-risk populations in designated high-crime areas. Ranging from $5,000 to $20,000, the grants must be spent by September 1.
Kentucky
The Community Foundation of Louisville has announced that Tracy Pennington, a local mosaic artist, has been awarded the Mary Alice Hadley Prize for Visual Art. Pennington will use the award to attend an intensive five-day workshop with a mosaic master at the Mosaic School in Ravenna, Italy.
Massachusetts
The Equality Fund at the Boston Foundation has announced grants totaling $75,000 to nine Boston-area organizations serving the LGBTQ community. Recipients include the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, the GLBTQ Domestic Violence Project, Home for Little Wanderers, and Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders.
New York
The Adirondack Foundation in Lake Placid has announced the launch of a new fund to boost grants to local communities. In 2014, the Generous Acts Fund will award up to $45,000 through three programs: Small & Significant grants, Collaborations grants, and Big Impact projects. Organizations applying for Small & Significant grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 are encouraged to use the Adirondack Foundation's crowdfunding website — www.adirondackgives.org — to apply. Collaborations grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 will be targeted to organizations working to solve problems and create opportunities in the region. And grants for Big Impact projects will be initiated by the foundation itself.
The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling $663,000 in support of thirteen projects through its Hive Digital Media Learning Fund, which supports educators and young people interested in designing new ways to learn, create, and participate beyond the classroom. Recipients include the Beam Center, the Bronx Museum of Arts, Carnegie Hall, and the New York City Writing Project.
North Carolina
The Polk County Community Foundation in Tryon has announced scholarships totaling more than $190,000 to fifty-eight graduating seniors and adults from Polk County and Landrum, South Carolina, the Tryon Daily Bulletin reports.
Ohio
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that its Women's Fund has awarded ten mini-grants in support of women's economic self-sufficiency. Mini-grants ranging from $500 to $1,500 will support organizations working to improve the lives and economic status of women and girls in the greater Cincinnati region. Recipients include 4C for Children, the Advance Network, Hope House Rescue Mission, and Santa Maria Community Services.
South Dakota
The Black Hills Area Community Foundation in Rapid City has announced a total of $15,000 in scholarship awards to sixteen students.
