Colorado
The Community First Foundation in Denver has announced the appointment of Noah M. Atencio to the newly created position of vice president of community impact. For the past eight years, Atencio has served as assistant vice president of grants programs at the Denver-based Daniels Fund.
Louisiana
Local business Ora Estuaries, which recently won the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s fourth annual Water Challenge, is installing three engineered oyster breakwater units in the coastal waters of St. Bernard parish as part of an oyster habitat restoration project run by the Nature Conservancy. When completed, the project will add a half mile of restored oyster reef to the four miles already restored by TNC.
Ohio
The Columbus Foundation has announced the names of eleven individuals selected to participate in its 2014 Summer Fellows Program. Now in its fifth year, the program provides college students and recent college graduates with the opportunity to work with central Ohio nonprofits for a ten-week period. Participants in the program will receive a stipend of $5,000 and will support a variety of projects.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced almost $105,000 in grants to eight nonprofit organizations through its Opportunities for Children iFund grant program. Recipients include Citizens Caring for Children, the Oklahoma Children’s Theatre, El Reno Youth and Family Services, and Positive Tomorrows.
Texas
The San Antonio Area Foundation has announced scholarships totaling more than $2 million for the 2014-15 academic year. A total of 344 students will receive awards from the foundation for the coming school year. The scholarships are in addition to the 319 scholarships totaling more than $1.6 million previously awarded by the foundation.
Washington
The Seattle Foundation has named Tony Mestres as its new president and CEO. A twenty-two-year veteran of the technology industry, Mestres most recently was a marketing general manager and sales vice president for Microsoft.
Wisconsin
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced that the Winneconne Area Education Foundation, which is part of the OACF-affiliated Winneconne Area Community Foundation, has awarded a total of $12,250 in scholarships to sixteen Winneconne High School seniors.
