Irvine Foundation awards $22.6 million in grants
The James Irvine Foundation has announced 12 grants totaling $22.6 million in support of four initiatives focused on assisting working Californians.
Funding awarded through its Better Careers initiative included a two-year, $1.2 million grant to Community Partners in support of the Long Beach Undocumented Entrepreneurship and Microenterprise Project, a public-private partnership that provides case management, business development coaching, education, and financial literacy training for undocumented residents. Through its Just Prosperity initiative, the foundation awarded a two-year, $1.5 million grant to USC Equity Research Institute in support of a community-driven coalition that is tackling economic, racial, and social inequities in California.
Through its Priority Communities initiative, the foundation awarded a two-year, $2 million grant to New Energy Nexus to support tribal economic opportunity and sovereignty by developing a high-road green industrial campus on tribal land now known as Imperial Valley. Funding through the foundation’s Housing Affordability investment portfolio included a two-year, $1.55 million grant to Common Counsel Foundation to help communities of color and immigrant communities in California use land trusts, housing cooperatives, and other shared-equity models to build local power, community wealth, and capacity for self-determination.
