The Otto Bremer Trust (OBT) in St. Paul, Minnesota, has announced that it awarded grants and program-related investments (PRIs) totaling more than $105 million in 2023 to over 1,000 organizations in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The highest amount distributed since the creation of the charitable trust in 1944 included $95,389,988 in responsive grants and $9,695,000 in PRIs. Responsive grants were awarded to organizations that benefit residents of its targeted regions by providing funding in the areas of basic needs, community asset building, health and well-being, and restorative or emergency services. PRIs provide capital to qualified organizations and are administered by a subsidiary, Community Benefit Financial Company.

The majority of grants and PRIs were awarded to organizations in Minnesota, with organizations receiving a total of $54.3 million in grants and $7.15 million in PRIs. Organizations in Wisconsin received more than $23.1 million in grants and $795,000 in PRIs. Montana-based organizations were awarded $10.1 million in grants and $1.75 million in PRIs, while North Dakota groups received more than $7.8 million in grants.

“As the need for financial assistance increases for nonprofit organizations each year, we are honored to work with so many organizations using impactful approaches to address important challenges and opportunities in the communities we serve,” said OBT trustee and co-CEO Frank Miley.
