The Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation in Sarasota, Florida, has announced the appointment of STEVE BARANCIK and BEN HANAN to its board of directors. Barancik is a former screenwriter and educator. Hanan is a senior partner at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick and is on the boards of All Faiths Food Bank and Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation.
AMIT Children in New York has announced the appointment of SHARI SAFRA as president as well as the election of new board members: JENNIFER BERNSTEIN, MICHELLE CHREIN, MEYER KOPLOW, DANIEL MILLER, and ELIZABETH STRAUS GREENSPAN.
Byrd Barr Place in Seattle has announced the selection of ANGELA GRIFFIN as CEO. Griffin previously served as CEO of Launch, a nonprofit focused on high-quality early learning and care. During her tenure, she increased tuition assistance for working families by 200 percent, added legislative advocacy as a fundamental service and established a pathway to become an anti-racist organization.
The Common Counsel Foundation in Oakland has announced the selection of SANGEETA CHOWDHRY as executive director. Chowdhry previously served as interim vice president of the Global Fund for Women, leading strategic grantmaking and movement strengthening for global programs.
The Global Fund for Children has announced the appointment of new members to its global board of directors as well as its UK board of trustees. Joining the global board are JAMIE CAIN, of counsel with Eversheds Sutherland; MAULIK DOSHI, chief business officer at RiskSpan; and JOAN LOMBARDI, visiting scholar at the Stanford Center on Early Childhood. The Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF) in New York City has announced the retirement of DENNIS P. CHILLEMI as its executive director and the promotion of AUBREY RHODES to the position. Rhodes is currently LCRF’s senior vice president of strategy. Chillemi joined LCRF as executive director in November 2018 and helped the foundation’s research investments grow to its all-time high of over $2.4 million in a single grant cycle through research partnerships with industry and patient-led advocacy groups.
PND also notes the passing of feminist philanthropist PEG YORKIN at the age of 96. Yorkin was chair of the Feminist Majority Foundation and personally donated $10 million in 1991 to bring mifepristone, the abortion pill, to the United States. Mifepristone was approved for use in the U.S. in 2000. Yorkin was also involved in efforts to increase the number of women in political office through the Feminization of Power campaign, a multi-state tour produced by Yorkin to recruit potential female candidates to run and win seats in state legislatures and Congress.
