The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation has announced the addition of EMILY PIPER to its board of directors. Piper is the vice president of government and external affairs at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, where she leads the organization’s communications, government relations, and advocacy work.

The Kresge Foundation has announced the appointment of SAUNTEEL JENKINS to serve on its 11-member governing body. Since 2014, Jenkins has been CEO of The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), a nonprofit organization that provides energy and utility assistance to Michigan residents in need.

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation in Sarasota, Florida, has announced that its president and CEO, CAROL BUTERA, is retiring in spring 2023. Butera joined the foundation in July 2017 as executive director and was later promoted to president and CEO. In 2019, she helped transition the organization from a trust to a private foundation.

The William Penn Foundation in Philadelphia has announced the appointment of BARBARA WONG as its new director of creative communities. Wong will oversee more than $30 million in annual grantmaking.

The Aspen Institute has announced that MARGOT PRITZKER was elected chair of the board of trustees. Pritzker, chair of the institute’s Leadership Committee since 2009, succeeds JAMES S. CROWN, who served two three-year terms.

Americares, a health-focused relief and development organization in Stamford, Connecticut, has announced two changes to its emergency programs team, which supports disaster response and recovery work. CORA NALLY has been appointed director of international emergency response, and MARIEL FONTEYN has been promoted to director of U.S. emergency response.

Americans for the Arts has announced the addition of MARIAESMERALDA PAGUAGA as its vice president of strategic communications. Most recently, Paguaga led PeaceTech Lab’s office of strategic communications and special projects at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP).

Borealis Philanthropy has announced the addition of BIANCA CARTER as a program officer on its Racial Equity in Philanthropy (REP) Fund. Carter most recently served as a program officer of housing and homelessness at Trinity Church Wall Street, where she managed a $7 million portfolio.

Common Impact, a national nonprofit focused on skills-based volunteerism, has announced the appointment of LEILA SAAD as CEO, effective August 15. Saad will be responsible for the organization’s overall strategic, operational, financial, and managerial activities.

The Fibroid Foundation in Washington, D.C., has announced that KAREN BAKER has been appointed as a board member. Baker is founder and president of Boathouse Group.

Global Citizen, an international advocacy group, has announced the appointment of six members to its global board of directors, along with three additions to its Europe board of directors. New global board members include: PHUMZILE MLAMBO-NGCUKA, former United Nations under-secretary-general and executive director of UN Women; JUDY A. SMITH, founder and CEO of Smith & Company; ERNA SOLBERG, former prime minister of Norway; KRISTIN LEMKAU, CEO of J.P. Morgan Wealth Management; NIR BAR DEA, co-CEO of Bridgewater; and DIEGO SCOTTI, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Verizon.

Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors has announced the addition of CATHERINE CRYSTAL FOSTER as vice president of its San Francisco advisory team. In this role, Foster will leverage her expertise in social impact to develop and implement major grantmaking programs and provide strategic guidance across program areas for philanthropies of all types.

The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) in Charlottesville, Virginia, has announced that it has appointed DJ GERKEN as president and executive director, effective October 3. Gerken, currently SELC’s director of programs, will succeed executive director JEFF GLEASON, who is retiring after 30 years with the organization.

The Urban Resource Institute in New York City has announced the addition of VICTORIA HERNANDEZ as chief development officer. Most recently, she served as executive director of the Ironbound Community Corporation in Newark, New Jersey.
