The Arcus Foundation in New York City has announced that ALLI JERNOW will join the foundation as vice president of the social justice program, effective September 26. Jernow succeeds CINDY RIZZO, who has led the program since 2018 and held leadership positions at the foundation for 16 years. For Jernow currently serves as program director at Wellspring Philanthropic Fund, where she leads the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression program.

The Deaconess Foundation in St. Louis has announced the promotion of longtime team member CONSTANCE HARPER to vice president of policy, advocacy, and strategic initiatives. For the past five years, Harper has served as the foundation’s director of advocacy and freedom schools. Prior to joining Deaconess Foundation, Harper was the director of legislative outreach at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

The Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg, Oregon, has announced that foundation president and CEO ANNE KUBISCH will retire in late 2023. Kubisch has led the foundation since 2013 and will continue to lead the implementation of a newly launched strategic plan for the next year as the foundation looks for her successor. 

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation (ZSR) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has announced the retirement of its executive director MAURICE “MO” GREEN. Green will stay on until March 31, 2023, to assist the foundation and the board of trustees as they conduct a search and hire the next executive director. During Green’s tenure, which began in 2016, the foundation launched All For NC, its framework for grantmaking and learning. 

The Donors of Color Network—a cross-racial community of donors and movement leaders committed to building the collective power of people of color to achieve racial equity—has announced ISABELLE LEIGHTON as its new executive director. Leighton will continue the organization’s efforts to shift the center of gravity in philanthropy toward racial, economic, and social justice. 

The Gary Sinise Foundation in Franklin, Tennessee, has announced the departure of MIKE THIRTLE, who has served as its CEO since July 2021. An accomplished business and nonprofit executive and retired member of the U.S. Air Force, Thirtle led the foundation through a swift and significant relocation of its headquarters to Franklin from Woodland Hills, California. 

The Young Women’s Freedom Center in San Francisco has announced that deputy director ABIGAIL RICHARDS and managing director JULIA ARROYO will become the organization’s co-executive directors, effective September 1. They succeed JESSICA NOWLAN, who has served as executive director for six years. Nowlan will transition to leading and developing the ecosystem of initiatives and efforts, including economic models and housing, needed to realize the Freedom Charter, a set of principles aimed at guiding the movement to end mass incarceration and criminalization of children, families, and communities.

PND also notes the passing of philanthropist JULIAN ROBERTSON, who died of cardiac complications at age 90. One of the first to sign the Giving Pledge, Robertson built one of the most successful hedge funds of the late 20th century and gave more than $1.5 billion to causes such as medical research and environmental protection.
