The Barr Foundation in Boston has announced the promotion of JENNY CURTIN to director of education. After serving as interim director for the past four months, Curtin will provide strategic direction and leadership for Barr’s education program in its work to advance educational equity in high schools across New England. Curtin joined Barr in early 2016 as senior program officer after more than a decade at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

The Duke Endowment in Charlotte, North Carolina, has announced the appointment of CHARLES LUCAS to its board of trustees. During his 18-year tenure on the board, Lucas has served as chair and/or vice chair of several endowment committees. He is general counsel and chief compliance officer of Elevation LLC, VP Research, Inc., and Prodeo Asset Management, LLP

The Lilly Endowment in Indianapolis has announced the selection of JULIE WHITMAN as a program director for community development, effective in March 2023. Since 2017, Whitman has served as the inaugural executive director of the Commission on Improving the Status of Children, which was established by the state government of Indiana. 

Newman’s Own Foundation CEO MIRIAM NELSON has informed the foundation’s board that she intends to step down in the spring, the Wall Street Journal reports. The announcement comes as the company is engaged in a lawsuit filed by two daughters of Paul Newman, the late actor who founded the organization. Nelson has been CEO since 2020.

The Surdna Foundation has announced the election of MELISSA D’ARIENZO, MIGUEL A. SANTANA, and OMMEED SATHE to its board of directors. D’Arienzo is a fifth-generation Andrus family member and a global director for channel sales at LinkedIn. Santana, president and CEO of the Weingart Foundation, is one of four community members on Surdna’s board. Sathe, also a community member, is head of strategy at Lafayette Square

The AARP Foundation has announced the selection of CLAIRE CASEY as its president, effective January 9, 2023. Casey previously worked at Economist Impact, where she was global head of policy and insights, managing teams on five continents. 

The Dream Foundation in Santa Barbara, California, has announced the addition of SHERYL ZIMMERMAN to its national board of directors. Zimmerman will work closely with staff, serve as a valuable advisor to program services, and bring awareness to end-of-life, palliative care, and long-term care organizations based on her extensive knowledge and networking. Zimmerman co-directs the Program on Aging, Disability, and Long-Term Care, part of the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Entrepreneurship for All (EforAll) in Lowell, Massachusetts has announced the appointment of MERALIS T. HOOD as chief executive officer. The position was previously held by DAVID PARKER, who helped launch and grow the program alongside founding sponsor GURURAJ “DESH” DESHPANDE, for over 10 years. While he will be stepping down as CEO, Parker will continue to provide his expert guidance to EforAll as a board member. Hood will have oversight for the operational, financial and fundraising strategies to help EforAll achieve its ambitious goal. She will serve as an authentic advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, championing inclusive entrepreneurship both within EforAll’s staff and within the populations they serve. 

The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation in Andover, Massachusetts, has announced the appointment of four new members to its board of directors. The new members include JENNIFER CONNELLY, the founder and CEO of JConnelly, GEMMA POSTLETHWAITE, the CEO of Arizent, CLARA SIERRA, the senior director business development and global sales at Moody’s Analytics, and MARC SQUIRES the SVP and head of wealth & brokerage platforms segment at Fidelity Investments

People For the American Way has announced the selection of SVANTE MYRICK as its next president. Myrick will succeed BEN JEALOUS, who has accepted a new position as executive director of the Sierra Club. Myrick will become president and CEO on January 1, 2023, and Jealous will work with him to ensure a smooth transition. 

The World Resources Institute (WRI) has announced the selection of ROGIER VAN DEN BERG as the next global director of WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, WRI’s program focused on creating more resilient, inclusive, and low-carbon cities. Van den Berg has been serving as acting global director since July 2021, working with a transition team of senior directors to coordinate and guide key decisions.
